Default gas mileage

ive read around on here about people gettin in the 20 range for gas mileage. i check mine everytime i fill up and the highest ive got is like 18.9mpg. ive only had the car for 3 months. i changed the fuel filter 2 months ago when i changed the oil. any idea what could cause it to be so low. i drive about 40% highway 60% city

its an A4

It all depends on how you drive. If you floor it everywhere your going to feel the lower mpg. I've read people getting everywhere from 8mpg to 26mpg in town. I've heard of people getting almost 35mpg on the highway. Since you have an A4 you will get slightly lower mpg than a M6. I drive about 70 percent city 30 percent highway and I get around 24mpg. My car is completely stock besides exhaust. Just think the more HP you have the less mpg you will get (to a point this is true but with some mods you can increase HP AND MPG!) All I can tell you is get a tune up and drive her easy most of the time. Good Luck!

Seafoam the entire car. Chocotaco did a write up in the maintenance section(sticky). That may help. Also, these cars will work with 87 or 93, but make sure you're using 93 for the best mpg and performance. Other than that, just keep your foot out of it. I DD my T/A, and also deliver pizza in it. Drove about 140 miles today, and it took like 7 gallons to fill it. Then, at the light turning right after leaving the station, I lit em up and covered the street in smoke. You just gotta budget how much you floor it.

What gear ratio do you have? 2.73 or 3.23

19 is pretty good if you do a lot of long lights in the city.

Also when you say highway is it 55 65 75? Is there a lot of traffic. 75mph is fine and good but if some 40 year old ******* in a SUV watching talking on a cellphone slams on his brakes every five minutes and you have slow downs it can be worse that semi-heavy city.

If you're not tuned .. that might something to do with it.

I average 20mpg 50/50 hwy/cty. 25+ hwy cruise 75mph

before cam and gear I have achieved 30mph on my m6 on all highway. One of my friends got over 500 miles on one tank of gas with headers, catback, lid, K&N, and de-screened MAF.

im pretty good with takin it easy but i get that itch about once a tank to get on her. on highway i do about 73mph i set my cruise and dont have to break it till i get off on my exit. its stock except the aftermarket air lid. and im goin to seafoam my tank on my next fill up cause i have to get my car check for emmission so i figured that would help anyway. im goin to wait on the rest of the car cause im not really to change my oil yet.

Proably like most the people on this site i daily drive my car, and drive it like I built it to run. With the mods in my sig I get 29mpg on a highway trip and daily driving city/highway is where my driving habbits kill the mileage i get an avg of 15-16. I think your driving style and how well you tuned your car is going to determine how efficient it is.

This is too true. It all depends on how heavy that right foot is.

IMO, I think your front o2 sensors might be getting a lil lazy on you, mine were so I replaced em & saw a 2 mpg increase
