Which is Faster?
both are the same speed. whether it's an SS, a Z28, a formula, a T/A or a WS6, it doesn't matter. any weight issues or differences in gearing can be made up by good driving in most cases. you can run a low to mid 13 in any of them stock, with M6's having the capability to snag high 12's if you can really drive.
get the car that looks better. you obviously think the firebird looks better, as do i and thousands of others on LS1tech. even many camaro owners will agree the firebird is definitely the more aggressive looking and generally appealing car. IMO, you'd be a fool not to get a firebird as you obviously are not partial to the camaro. the firebird is the same speed as the equally equipped camaro (assuming same gearing and transmission).
When I was first looking for my car I had my heart set on a Pewter SS M6 power everything leather and T-tops. I had been raised in a Chevy family, my dad had always had Chevys.. 68 RS/SS (clone) fully restored with a fully built 396, give me chills still thinking about that car
.... As time went on (over seas will looking) I came to the conclusion that it didn't have to be an SS. So after about five months of searching internet I came back to the states to start the hunt. Imagine my surprise when was going out to dinner with the wife and stopped and bought a Trans am instead
Just stopped to take a look but the more I looked the more I fell in love and just had to have it.
I still would love to get a Pewter SS (still sexy as hell) but don't know if that will happen

Anyway, with either car you'll have to deal with headlight maintenance. Either you'll be replacing gears in the Firebird headlight motor or you'll be waxing lenses on the Camaro.
1 year later got the Z28 in NBM for 12,000 including sales tax and 31K miles and all the mods I had planned for the Trans Am are now in this car. If I would have found another Trans Am in NBM for the right price, I would have gotten that but they are a much rarer car than the Camaros and usually end up costing more.
Like a friend of mine says though, "You can only do so much appearance wise with the Trans Am, with the Camaro, you can personalize it a bit more when it comes to outer appearance."
