i always thought that how loud the tires are were because of the rubber that its made of.

I would suspect the cold street isnt letting them really grip enough to cause them make any sterotypical burnout noise.

I would think it would have something to do with the compound of the tires, but I'm not at all certain about that. I don't know if harder or softer compound tires would be prone to making sound.

Yeah, when it's cold, my tires spin but hardly make any noise. I think they need to heat up which they can hardly do on cold or frozen roads.

It's the different compound and tread design of the tire. Some squeal, others don't. When it's cold out, the rubber hardens and will have less tendency to squeel as well.

has to do with the temp. outside as mentioned. Also i had an 88 corvette which were extremely quiet even with 90 degree temp. so im guessing it has to do with the compound of the tire also.

I think the more power u have the faster the tire spins and less the noise. Have u notice that mostly trucks are loud when they burn out.

in my experiences with burnouts/noise produced.

the slower you spin them the more noise associated with the spinning.
we all know that when we bark the tires when shifting gears that there is almost ALWAYS a noise associated with that.
i would just assume that the slower rotation would cause more of a noise. when friction is at its highest.

/\/\ The friction coeffiecient is independent of the rotational velocity of the tire.

It depends on two things: the temp of the ambient air and the compound of the tires. A cold temp will create less friction and tend to make less noise.

Generally speaking, the harder the tire, the more it will squeal. The softer the tire, the less it will make noise. That's why you notice some high performance tires (ie, BFG KD) don't squeal as much as some harder tires (ie, BFG KDWS).
