If you do all the work yourself, find used parts etc. you may be able to get there. $1500 really isn't much, you'll need a tune after too which will be upwards of $400 after the parts. Then at least some tires to hook up and a clutch (if your an M6), or a built/stalled tranny (if your an A4) to make use of the power. Making power is easy, holding it all together is where you spend the money.

To make near 400whp with just a cam+bolt-ons, you will want a stall. Your cam selection will be limited with it stock.

I wouldn't get the LS6 cam. It really isn't very good at all, and you may see 10whp out it. Just buy a good cam from the get-go, and not have to redo it in a year.

check out the For Sale section for some used heads and cam, they can be had under $1500, or just find a cam and upgrade your valve springs to save some money.

he wants to keep the same stall.10hp for 200 bucks if he does the work his self isnt bad.on his 01 with the .465 lift cam id say he would see more than 10hp.thats alot of lift to gain the duration is also better.if your inspection station only looks at the converters you can buy dummy converter shells to weld on the ory.

You could go right to a Magic Stick4 from Texas speed for a might 80hp to the crank and dyno tune. (as shown in GM High Tech Performance mag)
Find a used LS6 intake and toss the rest into exhaust would be my course of action...

With an auto I'm told that having a cam in a daily driver isn't as bad as a stick because you're not loosing rpms when taking off slowly like you would if you were letting out a clutch.

Then again, I don't have a cam (that I know of) in my T/A so I can't say from experience...

It is probably gonna cost you more than $1500.00. You need headers/intake/cam. A stall will not give you numbers, but just use them. All of that will be around $2000.00-2500.00. Even then, it is tough for some A4's to lay down the bigger numbers.

If you're looking for 400 bhp, that's easy, just get all the boltons, intake and exhaust. Longtubes, ported stock tb, true duals (optional), pulley, you already have a lid and ls6 intake.

That'll net you around 350 rwhp (M6), which is about 410 bhp. Auto should be making about the same, just will dyno less.

400 rwhp is a different story. You're going to need a big cam, plus all the boltons, or heads and a medium cam, plus all the boltons, to get to 400 rwhp.

I agree with orangepeel in an a4 you're gonna be pressed to put down those numbers on stock heads. And even more pressed for 1500. Maybe with used headers/y and a big cam with supporting valvetrain and do the work yourself and a stall and a tune? I think that's going to put you over to about 2g's.

whats wrong with the stock 01 heads? i made 395 to the wheels with a tiny 232/234 .595/.598, THROUGH CATS... but your numbers will be considerably lower sicnce ur an A4...

i doubt that fact that its an a4 will make a large difference in the numbers. I mean just because its an auto does not make it a bad thing.

And yeah i want 400 BHP between 350-370 rwhp is enough for me

Do all the bolt-ons first. Full exhaust will really help your cam out in the future. I would also stay away from the LS6 cam. I can almost guarantee you that you would be changing it out soon.
