i think its funny how when somebody says a noise in the engine bay, everybody says a spun bearing. a spun bearing doesnt make a whining sound

my car sounds like that i believe it is my power steering pump dying a slow painful death due to it being and m6 and the constant rpms i am running....

Did you ever think it is coming from your transmission? Pilot bearing maybe?

its Not a freaken spun bearing...spun bearings make a Knocking sound, not a friggen ticking...besides your oil pressure would be next to nothing....
your belts will squeek alot...its the most common. If it doesnt affect performance and driving, its nothing major and i wouldnt worry too much about it....could also be a brake pad rubbing the rotor from holding the brakes. The calipers on our cars are famous for locking up.

I'm with BLKWS.6

I'd be willing to bet it's the Idler Pulley Bearing. If it was the Power Steering, he would have mentioned the wheel getting hard to turn when the whinning starts.

Can't really explain why only after the burnout, but I bet it only happens when you first start the car and then slowly quiets down. That's the first sign of it taking a ****, replace it as soon as you can.

I don't see how a burnout could cause you to spin a bearing unless you were holding it to redline for a long time. i have done my fair share of hell raising burnouts. I wasted two full tread goodyear gator back tires one time in a single burnout and my car is still running just fine. I have never held the rpm's up really high during a burnout though, i just let it shift out and hold her steady. I have been on the rev limiter many times and now that I have Heads and a cam I shift out at 7,000...............Either my car was damn good wednesday made car or there was something wrong with a person's car before to spin a bearing during a burnout.

Wheel bearings would be harmonic IIRC from when mine went out. They did it in a 10mph area, 65-75 for me.

Well, it wasn't power steering. I checked the fluid, also my belts. It's still making a whine until it shifts around 35. Performance doesn't seem to be affected. The sound is just annoying.

werd! i mean...wouldnt it be just a little easier to take off a belt then start to tear down your motor? anyways...i had a supercharged LT4 a while ago and it did the same thing...even after i took the s/c belt off (had a suspicion it was it)
but it was just the belt and a bad idler pully..so check those

first of all thanks for all replies guys. I did the burnout for about 10-15 seconds and it held on 6,000 rpms for about 3 seconds. I think the idler pulley is what is making the noise.

are you sure it's under the hood? if you can't hear it while it is just sitting there in idle it could be the rear. i had that problem when i was driving thought it was coming from the engine but it ended up being the rear about to go. but if it is doing it while at a stop then i'd check the idler pulley

my supra did the same thing after i did a burn out. im not sur ewhy but mine went away after afew minutes.

im not familiar with the genIV style power steering but i know my PS pump became starved for fluid and got very loud for a short time.
