I did mine in under 10 minutes, bought the pulley at autozone for under 20 bucks.

To clear up a lot of misconceptions in here... a spun bearing will cause a noticeable loss in oil pressure and most likely wouldn't be just a slight whine like a belt. Doing a 6k burnout and running down the track at 6k ARE two different things. Under load you have better equalizing forces (those trying to push the car faster, and those holding it back). With a burnout, you have very little to no equalizing force on the pistons and rods holding the engine back (aka load). Free-revving is even worse. There is a whole topic on this in the advanced section for a more technical explanation or if you care to read further about how others explain. Personally, I would start with the easy stuff like belt/pulley squeaks and work my way toward the valvetrain and further internally. Good luck finding out what it is.

Its nice to know that all of the mechanics here have heard a spun bearing whine. Please guys, It is obvious that you have never dealt with a spun bearing or have heard one for that matter. Just as only a couple of post have mentioned, your oil pressure is the first to take a dump and then the sound of a knock is usually followed depending on which bearing was spun. In some rare cases you will get a loud squealing that doesnt sound like a belt but metal on metal. Correct me if I am wrong..... P/S pump, idler pulley or even an alternator are better possibilties.

Does the whine vary in pitch with load/revs?
I had a whine from the engine bay, it wasn't a belt or engine though. My battery cables were loose and the alternator was whining from being overworked. Tightened battery cables, no more whine.

There is my engine whine which also occured after the track and the original poster's whine. If you are talking about mine it seems to come from the right side as you are sitting in the car and only happens as I press the gas up to about 30-40mph. It's noticeable but, not TOO loud. I've already tried filling the ps resevoir which was a tad low but, no effect. I've got my tb at New
Era this week and when it comes back I'll look into the engine some more. If there are anymore ideas keep 'em coming.
