I would suggest doing a search in the gears/axles forum. This has been discussed in depth.

FWIW I have a 9" with 4.11s in my M6 car, I absolutely love them. Just make damn sure they're set up 100% correctly or you'll have gears that scream/whine like mine do.

i would stick with New GM 3:73's

They are the best of both worlds, and depending on tire size and other variables i hear you run outta gears in the 1/4 mile with 4:10's.

Well that depends on what you run in the 1/4 in terms of trap speed.

6000rpm in 4th with 4.10's = 112mph on stock rubber. However if you cam it and up the limiter then:

6500rpm = 121mph
6700rpm = 125mph

Thats more than enough for most.

Thread OP there's a link in my sig for a gear calculator you might find it handy.

One thing to bear in mind is that gears and sticky rubber on a stock 10 bolt will usually equal a busted rear end.

It might be worth looking into 12 bolt or a 9" rear, most sponsors (TSP, EPP) have them listed.

You have an A4, this thread is about M6.

Back on topic:
Putting gears in a 10 bolt (more so M6 car), or dumping any amount of money into a 10 bolt is worse then taking a huge **** against the wind..............in front of a huge crowd.

12 bolt and 3.73's is a nice set up. 4.10's with heads/cam you will run out of gear with stock tire height. I know that for sure because I did as well as alot of friends has too.

Peace,
Craig.

Yes that i am aware of. I was just making a comment. But any disscussion of 4th in a m6 holds true to 3rd in a a4 due to having the same trans ratio. So if i am 6000rpm in 3rd in my a4 at 125 then so would a m6 in 4th gear with 3.73s at 6000rpm. Given that they both have the size tires.

I've read that 4.10 gears for 10 bolts are cut thinner than the 3.23-3.73, making them weaker and more prone to breaking.

4.56 is the best 6-speed gear once you're modded (12-bolt of course). Don't fear the gear. I put 4.30's in my car recently, I'm going back to 4.56's. I miss them that much.

I love the 70 mph freeway clutch dump in to 3rd with 4.56s. It screams.

3.73s is like driving in molasses.

4.10s is getting there, but you're still missing out.

4.56 is the sweet spot.

Do it.

Do it.

If I were you I'd split the difference between the 3.73s and the 4.10s...that's my future plan. This only works if you upgrade to a 12 bolt or 9 inch rear where 3.91s are available.
