Here's a motor reliability story for ya

I've got ~101K miles on mine and I purchased the Firehawk brand new in 2001.

I put H/C/Headers/full Bolt-ons on it in '01 with less than 20K miles.

Blew the stock motor due to an oil pump failure at ~48K miles doing a series of ~190 mph top speed runs.

Factory replaced short-block at ~48K on the odometer.

I've run an MS3 or MS4 with ported heads, FAST 90/90, 1 7/8" Headers, Zex Direct Port of spray, and all the bolt-ons for the past ~52K miles of HARD DRIVING on a stock bottom end

So yeah, I'd say that the LS1 exhibits moderate reliability

Dyno'd 308/328 with 120K miles on the odometer BONE stock

Runs STRONG, never have had any issues ... do maintenance regularly.

The only problem Ive had with My LS1 T/A is the rear end exploding after a trip to the track (I had a spare one on hand with 3.73s), and my key getting stuck in the ignition (which was fixed with a new ignition cylinder).

No piston slap, oil issues, window motor problems or anything like that to date

my story..

bought her with 18k miles on it in November 2003
dd her up to 60k with just a lid and a flowmaster, then put a hotcam, LT's springs, pushrods, oil pump, etc... and drove w/o a tune for 9k. finally couldnt handle the car running like ****, so i slapped on an STS kit @ 69k tuned her, and now w/ 71k goin strong! my stock tranny just took a **** so she is now taking a break in the garage
