don't trust the tach...
haven't seen a ls1 car yet whose stock tach is dead on accurate. On the dyno, I found mine to be off almost 100rpm at idle, and lagging behind badly when running it at wot.

Idle will be higher at cold temps and on a cold start, but those are the numbers for a warm motor.
The only way you have a different idle speed is if you have custom tuning, or something is wrong with the car causing it to idle too low or high.
Don't pay too much attention to your factory tach. Mine shows an in gear idle of about 700rpm, but my scanner always shows 550 (+/- 25rpm).

if your ls1 is perfectly healthy. after its warmed up it should almost idle at 500 rpms. 750ish in colder weather.
your engine will run 1000-1200 rpm while warming up. thats normal. but should atleast drop to around 750 range. after i seafoamed my car my rpms when back to the original 500 Rpms after it warms up. their is no lofting or chocking. its the perfect smooth idle.

My car used to idle around 1k no matter what. Driving or in park. Thought it was fine. Got a tune for the car and cleared up codes and whatnot, and it's just like the rest. At start is 1k, then it goes down to around 650-700rpms.
