Default Rear diff fluid?

Its that time to change the rear diff fluid again and im going with RP 75W-90 im currently using RP engine oil and I couldnt be happier with it so im gonna try their rear fluid too. Along with the RP do I need a additive and if so whats the best to use?

more than likely GM additive will be the top choice you can get it from alot of sponsors on here.

Use a synthetic 75w90 for the diff on a '99+ car. For the '98 use a 80w90 dino oil. Those are the GM recommendations. They both call for the GM LSD additive, but from what I understand you don't *have* to have it for the '99+ rear. I still used it for mine though.

seems strange that gm recomends it for a zexel that has no clutches, and zexel says you don't need it. just filled mine with mobil one. why would you need a friction modifer in a housing with nothing but gears?

That's why you don't *have* to have it for the '99+. But the '98 has a different rear.

Either a fluid pump (looks like a grease gun) or just a long hose clamped to the bottle of gear oil.

Yeah I wasnt sure about the additive, and when I went to pick it up from my local GM dealer he said I diddnt HAVE to have it. And ive heard "yes you need it" and "no you dont" from alot of guys. So better safe than sorry, I paid 9 bucks for it maybe a waste of money but 9 bucks is a steal for peace of mind.

Well I changed the fluid today, now I can cross that off my list of things im never gonna do myself again! lol Going off everything was cool, fel-pro gasket and RTV went on fine even puttin the diff shield back on was easy. Filling the damn diff up with fluid SUCKED! My hand pump is a POS, RP's easy fill bottle was a joke. Got more fluid on the floor of my garage and my arms than in the damn fill hole! But after a sit down talk with a guy named Jack D and a few cigs everything worked out fine. I was havin the fill issue cause a C-clamp around my Magnaflow 3 inch pipe wasnt allowing me enough space to get that bottle in. But it worked out, gears sound good and no leaks, so all and all it was a informative experience. Thanks for the help guys. Tommarows header an ORY install day wish me luck!
