Default Is a shift kit a good idea for a daily driver?

After I got smacked by a old *** DSM last weekend from a light, I want to get some mods that can make me hang with my friends modded DSM. Im bone stock A4 98Z28. I want to get some more power down low i.e below 3500rpms. Im thinking 3.73, catback, lid, bellows, ls6 intake, ported TB. should help me allot. I want good driveability as I sit in traffic for 30 minutes every day.

will a shift kit be annoying in traffic? or will it be like normal?

A shift kit,3500 stall converter, tranny cooler and a sticky set of tires should be the first mods on your list. A 3500 converter is very streetable, does just fine in traffic and will by far give you your best gains.Once you have those items then work on installing the other items on your list.

I think you should spend your money elsewhere. Get yourself a lid, then maybe a LS6 intake and ported TB. Then get some headers and a catback. Then if you want to do something to your trans Id say get a TC, tranny cooler, and some gears. This is just my opinion, Im sure others will chime in. Good luck!

Lid then torque converter.
Trust me, those are the first two mods that you want.

He will notice a bigger difference with a TC than a lid,ls6 intake and a TB put together.

i had a shift kit in my 95 trans am and i drove it everyday .....see there 2 ways to install a shift kit ....the one way makes the car shift hard as hell ......then the other way its not as bad .....i recomend doing it the 2nd way its safer on your tranny and other parts of the cars ..........shift kit is something cheap u can do to help your car out a little ...its not going to help u beat a DSM .....i say get some headers ,exhaust ,lid ,ls6 intake and ported throttle body ...to start of then i would go with a stall ,gears, and some stick tires .........if its an older talon or eclipse ...he's going to beat you off the line ....its all wheel drive ....there really is much you can do about that ...but good luck with everything hope i was some help

calie0, lets keep this thread civil. You only have 18 posts and half of them are rude just like the first one you made in this thread

IMO a shift kit is vital to maximize clutch life as it gets rid of the slippage due to soft factory shifts. And the factory seperator plate is a POS, not unusual for a check ball to get stuck in it. You can set up the TransGo for different shift hardness depending on your taste. If I had to do it over, I would have gone a little smaller on the 1-2 shift feed hole, even though I used no spacers on the 2nd accumulator, but I have a stock converter. More in depth here:
