I didn't know calcium, and magnesium were anti wear additives. I thought they were detergents?
I could be wrong about magnesium, but calcium is definitely a dual purpose additive, in that it's used for both it's detergency and it's ability to provide some antiwear protection.

I don't know for sure. I'm going of the UOA for each additive. Calcium, magnesium, and one other were in the detergent catagory. The paper is in my desk in the office, so I'm trying to remember what it said exactly. Do you know any sites that have this information available?

Some of the Amsoil products ARE more 'stout' than PennzPlat.
But NOT by enough to make up for the phenominal 'bang for the buck' factor of the Platinum, especially IF you get it on rebate/sale at Pep Boyzz for $1.99/quart!!!
This is even more the case if you are doing less than 10-12K mile OCIs (Oil Change Intervals).
You are just throwing your money away if you are going to change out the costly Amsoil at only 3-8K miles anyway!!!!!!
Hell, the PennzPlat might last 8-10K itself, depending on your use/abuse of the LS1.

Default Which weight : Pennzoil Platinum ?

I once tried the PP as a substitute from GC 0w30
Think it was the 5w30 and my engine seemed to burn this oil unlike GC, not as much as the M1 though.

What's the better PP weight to use in an LS1 (as in a more comparable cst to GC)?

I'll stick to GC. Ever since I switched from Mobil 1, my car has ran great and not used any oil.

Eak, i'm still changing my oil using mobil 1 full syn 10w30 every 2800 miles, i guess old habbits. I just got it done, so it is safe to go a little bit longer? I think with my next batch i'm going to try that PP.

You can definitely go longer than 2800 miles! I typically go 6 or 7k between changes, and have gone as high as 9k and my oil analysis results always show the oil to still be in great shape.

Even conventional oil can handle going longer than 3k, I use conventional (Castrol GTX) in my wife's car, and change it every 6 months, which works out to as much as 5k in some cases. I get her oil analyzed and it always shows the oil to be in good shape too.
