The spring mod works but eventually destroyed the latching mechanism on mine. I now have to open up the hatch while pulling up and using my alarm.

Wait.. the hatch is supposed to open all the way up when pressing the button?
Must be a problem unique to your car. Oh, and my WS6, and the preious 2 Firebirds.

b/c when i have to put stuff in it, i just don't wanna put it in the back seat, since i have a sapce in the trunk.. but it's so annoying ,because i have to take out my key and push the button, and wait there to open it up, b/c if it's too late, it will get stuck.

I did something similar except that I actually replaced the spring with a shorter and stiffer spring instead of piggybacking another spring onto the original one. Mine has worked fine for a few months now and I've used it several times. I don't recall the exact length (maybe it was ~3"?), but I went to a hardware store and found one that was close to the original one but a little shorter. I bought it, tried it, and it was still too long to open it every time, so I returned it and got a shorter one and it worked fine.

Like everyone said installuniversity.com & ls1howto.com have a lot of great information. You problem is the spring and you can replace it or get a piggyback set up.
