problem with shifter---pls help

Default problem with shifter---pls help

my buddy asked me to post a question for him. he has a 2000 ws6 with 75k miles and 500rwhp. the car has a 150 shot and a cam. the only mod he has performed to his drive train is a short shifter. the clutch and rear end are stock. Basically whats happening is when he takes the car out of reverse and puts it into neutral the shifter goes dead so to speak. he can put it into gear but when in neutral the shifter doesnt go to the middle. if he pushs it left it will stay there. if he pushes it right it will stay there. you get the picture. He seems to think that this has somehting to do with his shift kit eliminator. his arguement is that if it was soemthing mechinaical it would happen all the time however this problem doesnt. only sometimes. any idea what this could be?

um the post is kinda unclear. what is a "shift kit eliminator"? you mean skip shift?

if it goes in gear its the return spring in the shifter.this makes it move toward the center when inm nutral.
if this is the case he needs a new shifter. if its not going into gear id say bent shift forks or somthin

skip shift yes sorry.

the shifter when in neutral is dead. if u push it right it stays there, if u push it left it stays there. As oppose to returning to center. this doesnt happen all the time but alot. especially when taking the car out of reverse.

additionally the car DOESNT have anyn problems going in and out of gear.

i guess maybe the shifter is bad

tks for the replies guys. he has a B&M short shifter. are these known to go bad in two yrs time? he has a cam so the car produces quite a bit of vibration. perhaps that speed up the detoriation of the shifter.

there are springs that return the shafter to center, one or both is missing. same thing happened to my factory hurst after a tranny fluid flush at chevy dealership
