When i bought my 02 ss the previous owner had put an slp MAF on it. I have heard the stock one is better to have so should i just try and find a stock one and put it on? Also i have a dry nitrous kit in my truck and plan to put it on the car soon. will this be ok with the SLP?

I would stick with it not sure really what the difference is but you could probably pick up a stock one from on here cheap and try the two and then sell whichever one you want. What part of DE are you from? check out firststatefbody.com local delaware fbody club.

Stick with the SLP if it already came with it! ...No sense is spending cash on something like that. Is the screen on the SLP MAF removed?

Deleware SS,

Is your car an auto or manual? I ask because if it is the manual, then just leave the SLP and don't worry about it. If it is the auto, then you will want to be cautious, since our cars have a habit of not liking a change in MAF's... It can lead ultimately to transmission problems...

This doesn't mean you have to change to a stock one, you just might want to be careful...

When my buddy changed his stock one to SLP he actually lost power so he took it off and sold it. I would leave it as long as it isn't causing problems, no need to spend cash on something like that. You can take the screen out if you haven't already.

don't mess with the screen. NOT worth the risks... I HIGHLY reccomend against removing the screen, especially if you have an auto...

I am in the same position as the person who started this thread. My 2001 had an SLP already installed on it. Would a custom tuner have a problem tuning an SLP MAF? That's the main reason I've been thinking of going to a stock one - for tuning simplicity.

Tuning the stock MAF is a pain. I don't know about the SLP's... Regardless, these cars run great without the MAF operating. I turned mine off and have been running in Speed Density mode for well more than a year. (approx. 7000 miles) 30 to 100 degrees outside with AC or heater full blast and have actually seen better mpg... I get around 19 in town.

MAF's suck.
