Default temp guage

Ok dumb question but is the temp guage in my T/A a dummy guage? The one in my old '05 GTO was not a 'true' guage and it stopped at a certain point probably because GM got so many complaints of cars running hot.

Another question is on my GTO I got 'popping' on decelleration that sounded badass, to me at least, but my T/A does not do this at all. Why? Is it because it doesn't have true duals like the GTO or maybe the GTO ran rich? Both are M6 cars and the GTO only had aftermarket intake/mufflers and was not tuned.

Feel free to call me a douchebag if I'm wrong about this guys but I think it is safe to say that the stock temp gauge in just about every car is a dummy gauge. Usually the needle is dead nuts center between "H" and "c" and there might be some temp markings on the gauge but the dashes are usually too small to be able to tell what the temperature actually is.

The temp gauge was functional only in 1998. 1999+ cars are just a fancy idiot light...

Well I'm not surprised that my car has a dummy guage but I know for a fact that the guage in my Dad's '01 C5 Vette is an actual functional guage.

Just Got a 02 SS to replace my Beloved 98 that was totaled recently and I'm concerned about the Temp gauge. When I start the 02, the gauge will begin to move rapidly toward the 210* mark and Stop just short of that and not move (is this normal for 99's +???) My 98 didn't do this. It would move, to about the 1/4 mark and "only" move up to the 210* mark if I was in a drivethru or sitting in traffic. when on the HWY, the 02 gauge will not move. It seems to be sitting right @ 200*-205* (gauge indicator).

I'd like that info too!! I really don't want to buy a A pillar gauge holder and a temp gauge......Unless I get a Turbo and need a place to put the boost gauge in!!
