Default MAF upgrade?

Hey guys,

When I finally purchase my SLP lid, should I also upgrade to the SLP 85mm MAF? The product summary explains that it would supply a 10hp gain, but is this a necessary upgrade for a stock car, or is it intended to coincide with other upgrades, like a larger T/B, etc?

Thanks in advance fellaz!

most ppl on this site would agree that leaving the maf alone is the best bet. the stock maf can stay up with about 500 hp. also, u risk the chance of ses codes poppin up cuz of the sensors.

you definitely want to leave the MAF stock.

The only time the MAF should be touched is:

1. if you have an extremely high horsepower application
2. if you know exactly what you are doing, meaning if you don't even need to ask this question

This is one of those mods that companies trick a lot of newbies into doing that isn't a good idea. Yes, in some cases you can see a 5-10 hp gain on a stock car just by swapping the MAF. However doing this is a bad idea. The reason you see this gain is because a larger MAF lets in more air, however since the computer has not been calibrated for the larger MAF it doesn't know how to properly meter the air so what happens is that your A/F ratio ends up being leaner. As most people know, a leaner A/F ratio makes more power. The problem is that since you now have an inaccurate metering of the air, this can really screw you up when you start adding larger mods like headers, or heads/cam and it's just not something you want to do. It also makes it almost impossible to tune your car unless you have the correct calibration tables that go with it.

Stay with the stock one. If you really want to upgrade it, save up enough to get the FAST intake and 90 mm TB. The SLP one is junk.

I am using the 85mm Z06 MAF, then again I wired it in, we were able to Tune it in, and I got it cheap.
I also have a setup that is about 600hp..

How big is the Stock MAF..it's around 72mm from what I have seen. I am using the 85mm...basically for more air flow.
