how does the traction control work? asr? noob ? so i put it in here. How does the asr work on a 99 ls1? it doesnt alwasy want to shut off when i try but does every once in a while. the light on the swich doesnt work either.

It sounds like you are having an issue with the actual ASR switch as if it were a problem with ASR itself, it would stay off constantly. You can easily pop the center peice off from the dash to look over the switch to see if there is anything suspicious.
You can also check the ASR fuse in the fuse box under your hood, but if the fuse was bad, ASR would stay off constantly.
as far as how it works there are metal rings that have gaps cut in them so that it looks like a gear, these metal rings are called reluctor rings and are at the end of the axles, well at least in the rear, fronts work the same way just are on the front hub. A sensor measures how fast the teeth on the reluctor rings are traveling and then the computer matches that to the speed signal coming from another sensor, if these two speeds differ too much then the computer activates the traction control.
