GU6 was not an option on A4 cars. The GU2 (2.73) was standard, and the GU5 (3.23) was the only option.

3.42 was a V6 auto option. V6s had different gear options than V8s

This is the gearing in the 'V-6 Performance Package', which was in the 2001 I had. Pretty low geared for the freeway.

I just chnaged my read diff fluid today. I had noticed that my RPMs never matched exactly what that gear chart said, so I actually counted the teeth while I had the cover off. Sure enough 42/13=3.23076923..... But when I'm going 65 on the highway the tach reads about 2100 rpm, I guess it's a little off.

For the record Formula 413, if you have selectable first gear in the console, then you automatically have 3.23s.

Also, A4 3.23 (GU5) cars came with an aluminumn driveshaft. So if it's nice and shiny instead of rusty, good chance of 3.23's.

Another one I'm pretty sure of is that if you have a genuine WS6 A4 or SS A4,you automatically (pun intended) get the 3.23 gears out back.

Good call, I'm pretty damn sure you're right about that. But, from the looks of his handle (Juicedz28) he has a Z28. So whatever his RPO code is, that's what he has. Unless he bought the car used and somebody swapped them out?

Peace,
Craig.

Gu5 was an option for the tuned-down, 265 HP, 210 torque LS1.

This I'm not sure about with the later cars. My car has 2.73's and GU2 on the door, yet I have selectable 1st gear on the console, and the shifter DOES go there. I pulled the console to clean it, and there was a stamp that said this:

GU2: PRND2
GU5: PRND21

So maybe the later years, even the GU2 got the selectable 1st?

I knew the door code was GU5, I just thought perhaps somebody had swapped in 3.42s or 3.73s because the RPMs never matched that gear/rpm calculator chart. I knew it wasn't 2.73 gears. I also noticed that little stamp rhedalert mentioned on the bottom of the console. I also have access to first gear, I wonder why a car with 2.73s wouldn't?

All the LS1 A4 cars can select 1st gear. So can the LT1 2.73 cars if the stop was removed on the shifter.

Youre not paying attention are you. If your Camaro has a GU5 code, it has a 3:23 stock. The 3:42 came in the M6 cars, so either you are wrong, or it has been swapped in, its not factory like that.

Quick Reply: GU5 On door. Any idea?
