As for the intake, lets see..... 50k more miles worth of wear and tear that will need to be repaired, or a few hundered dollars for an LS6 intake? I'd rather buy the intake separate and get a 50k less mile car.
Leather vs cloth, well to be honest, I've had both in these cars and the cloth will hold up better long term than the GM leather. Plus, if you live in a climate with temp extremes, the leather in these cars is a pain because it's not heated or cooled.
T-tops, well I could go either way. They are cool, but I rarely ever use them.

i have been giving it alot of thought. it will be the 98. heres where i am looking at this from... i cant do heads and cam on an engine with 134k miles, but i could on 82k miles. also, in a few years if i get rid of the 02, it will have close to 200k on it and worth very little. if i do more than heads and cam, it will be a stroker ls2 or l92, so i wouldnt even reuse the block i have now. i didnt take the ttops off hardly ever when i have a t/a with them, and its lighter and stiffer without them. i drove the 02 again. it pulled nice, but not better than the 98, by the butt o meter.

I have a 98 with 123k on it. I paid $3600 for it a couple months ago. I planned on rebuilding it anyway, so I didnt care. BUT it was still very fast and solid when I got it. You would never guess it had more then 50k on it by looking at it or driving it. www.fquick.com/mnypitZ
All things considered, I personally would probably choose the t-top car. My t-tops only go in when I am at the track. The rest of the time they are out. I prefer convertibles but wanted a little stiffer car.
If you wont take the t-tops out anyway then choose the 98 with lower miles. I dont think it is all that much harder to tune to make it not worth buying.
So far I have allready replaced everything but the bottom end, so the mileage was really not all that important.
Good luck choosing, sounds like you found a couple nice cars.

hmmm...this is a question that none of us can answer. you are the one that can see the car, check them out, drive them.... use your best judgement we know nothing except what year it was made and what the speedometer says.
if they were both identical, in terms of how it was taken care of, etc.. i'd go for the 98.

well to be honest the pics of the 2002 dont show the condition that well. one headlight had been replaced (so the other is faded) and the hood had been repainted a slightly different shade. there was no frame damage or carfax notation, so it must have been a slow speed hit. the pass seat had a cut in the leather and the driver seat stitching was coming out. besides that it was decent. hopefully i will post pics on sunday of the 98 after i pic it up and clean/wax it(hoping the sale of my truck goes thru).

I would rather bet my money on the lower mileage 98. The hardtop is the best choice for a car you plan to beat on period. I have a 32k mile 99 TA and the driver side ttop won't shut up. There were some oiling issues with the 98, probably something easily helped with a new Melling or ls6 oil pump whence you throw a cam in. They also have a metal gas tank, which could be bad.

After reading this post I checked the unreliability factor out with a few LSx gurus. The fact is that the block is the same and an $85 oil pump will fix the oiling problem. I personally do not like a hardtop, but if it doesnt matter to you then the 98 is definately a better choice.

well i love 98-99 camaros i know their the same as all the others but for some reason i like them more than others. i also like the pewter over blue (no affiance to anybody) but the t top is so . And like the guy who said it above, a lower mileage car was probly better taken care of. so really what it comes down to is what you would like more in your car. if i was in you shoes id go 98

Again, the percentage of pump failures on the '98-'00 cars ('98-'00 ALL use the same pump) is very small, and usually that failure would happen at a low mileage. If it hasn't happened after 80k miles, chances are almost zero that it will ever happen within the useable life of the engine.

If you dont have intentions of gong all out slowly with the car and u want just the usual bolt ons then yeah it makes sense for the lower mile car..
I just bought a 98 m6 t-top car with 160,xxx on the chasis and supposed 80k on the motor for 4k . Honestly I dont give to ***** about miles on a car Im planning on modding anyways because even tho mods are intended to be just simple bolt ons it always escalades into more then that thats barely street driveable.. So Im happy with my buy. Hope you are to good luck.
