[QUOTE=BriancWS6] I thought with as many oil threads that are floating around, people would know the 5w30 is sub-par.
QUOTE]

How's that? I'm kinda curious on the reasoning.

Thanks,
John

Mobil 1 5W-30 has proven itself again and again to be a poor oil for the LS1 and most engines. Mobil 1 has changed their forumla. Their 30 weights are no longer true synthetics. This is shown with oil analyses. Mobil 1 oils are showing higher and higher wear rates, evident by abnormally high iron content in UOA's (Used Oil Analyses).

Pair that with the high valvetrain clatter and very high oil consumption rate Mobil 1 5W-30 shows on LS1's and you have a sub-par, high dollar pseudo-synthetic.

And no, Mobil 1 10W-30 is not a better oil to switch to because it is actually even thinner than 5W-30 at operating temps. A better bet is to NEVER use a Mobil 1 30 weight in ANY engine, ever. An even better bet than that is to never use a Mobil 1 engine oil product. Since Exxon took over, plain and simple, "they ain't what they used to be." Exxon has downgraded the oils, raised the prices and are selling their oil based on reputation alone, not on quality. There was a day when Mobil 1 was top notch, but not anymore. You can thank the greedy pigs at Exxon for that. Yet another reason why I have NEVER bought gas at an Exxon OR Mobil station.

I suppose if you HAVE to use a Mobil 1 oil, which IMO is a mistake, go for their Truck & SUV/Turbodeisel 5W-40 as it is much better than their 30 weight line, but I still consumed a lot more of this than I do GC 0W-30.

German Castrol 0W-30 is the only way to go IMO.

Ok, Thanks. I went back and re-read BriancWs6's post. I missed the part about where he was talking about Mobil1, and I thought he meant all brands of 5w-30.

Thanks again,
John

Why post things like that, it does no favours for anyone. Okay some threds become a little repetative asking the same questions, but we are all learning, or helping others, you are neither.
What are you talking about? Post like what? What do you mean, or do you even know what you mean?

Right now using normal Redline Synthetic 10w30, might get a test done by blackstone afterwards.

Might try, Amsoil, Torco, Schaeffer, Lubromoly, Motul, Elf sometime in the next couple years..

I used mobile 1 5w30 and 0w30, caused too much noise, so went to 10w30 mobile 1 and noise was better for a few years. Since the car had 2,500 miles on it I have been using mobile 1. After reading some posts about Penzoil Platinum, I went with it in 10w30 for my most recent oil change.. I am sticking with it from now on...car has no odd valvetrain noise and sounds better than when it was new. Might have just been the day, but car even seemed to run a little smoother. I added a K&N oil filter too.

I have 10W-30 valvoline in mine. Manual calls for 5W in the winter but I was recommended to keep 10W-30 all year round, just let it idle a little longer and warm up in the winter.

Just adding a little something to what ChocoTaco369 said... along with Auto Zone you can also order the German Castrol at O'Reilly Auto Parts as well. They don't keep it on the shelf, but I called once and they said they would be happy to order it for me. Just giving everyone a heads up!
