I think its funny, how much people are so excited about having an LS6 block. I remember being so excited when I found out I had an early 99 Cobra with a Teksid block....

But the LS6 block doesn't by itself produce one more hp...

No reason to avoid a '98 or '99.

Also, there is nothing wrong with the (dark gray) interior color, I actually like it.

if u are not considering camming the car i definently prefer 99-2000 the compression is a tad bit higher, but then again you have to suffer with the egr and all the other bullshit. i still think gm should have never used the LQ4 camshaft in 01-02, but was gm bullshiting when they said it got about 5 more Hp, i think the gain came from the ls6 manifold tho

Both of my 98s turned out great, no piston slap, no oil use issues, zip.

They came with the single outlet exhaust. Tossed mine in favor of a Magnaflow.

there are a few differences with all the years. Example the 98-99 have a bigger cam than the 00-02 ls1's. as for the ls6 block, not sure about that. I have a 99 ta and motor wise is great, no problems at all and im spraying 150 wet shot on a 90k motor

My dark gray interior isnt all kinds of different shades? It's all one color and what's left of it after weight reduction looks pretty good.

The PCM in the 98's are ok except when trying tune somewhat out of the ordinary. I had to change to 99+ pcm and a 99+ harness so that my car could be speed density tuned. Speed Inc. explained why but I don't remember exactly, I just know that the operating system was not up to the task. Also, i'm not sure how the 98 pcms do when trying to deal with high boost #'s.

My old 98 was a cam/converter car, tuned with hp tuners, made decent hp and went 11.6 on motor 1/4 mile.

And to be honest, it actually cracks me up how few of you truly know all the differences, or atleast the ones that matter

Injectors are good on 98's, Heads suck, Heads are okay on 99's, but jsut okay. LS1 intake is a major down, oil consumption is an issue with most, not all!!! but most. Oh man, LS6 blocks... Some, i repeat, some 02's have them. No, they don't make more horsepower, but they support more! Traction control!?!?! My 98...It doesn't exists, I have no traction, just ABS on my rear-end. Many, many, many other differences, jsut cracked me up people started talking about the negatives on interior. I mean, are you serious?

Now, to actuallyanswer the question of how 02's, not 00-02's, but 2002's are better( Imean, if you're gonna be picky, pick the best). You must tlak about numbers, and specific causes of those numbers. Take a 98 and an 02 with same mods, tune them and dyno them. You wil see a modest 15hp difference at the wheels usually. Reason for this is, LS6 Intake, 241 heads, compared to 98(806) heads, 98PCM Parameters compared to many more 02 PCM Parameters for tuning. These are just the most common reasons an 02 will pound for pound outperform a 98!

Hope that helps

Only difference between my wife's '02 and my '99 is the radiator hose on mine is rubber, where heres is aluminum and the windshiled washer lid lettering is red on mine and yellow on heres. Appearance-wise, that's the only differences we've found inside, outside, and under the hood ... not inclusive of the motor.

dude the only thing you would need to really worry about is your master and slave clutch cylinder's.

Quick Reply: why avoid the 98-99's Ls1's?????
