M6 (6-speed manual)

Pros
- fun to drive, plain and simple (IMO at least)
- more fuel efficient
- if you're ever going to upgrade 2 a new cam, don't have to worry about matching a stall
- we gain slighly more power through cam/head swaps (i believe, someone correct me if i'm wrong)

Cons
- more room for more parts to break down. But if one part breaks, the rest can hold it's own.
- one more pedal to worry about (though i personally like it)
- the terrible 10 bolt (the rear axle is weak and will wear down faster than an A4)
- stalling (but once you get the hang of it, you rarely ever will)
- clutch can wear down, depending on your driving style

Don't take my word for pure gold. I'm kinda a biased opinion. Don't get me wrong, i have nothing against automatics. I just find manuals more fun to drive.

As far as not being good at a stick.... believe me, you will improve to the point where it is second nature. Before you know it, you'll be able to have a conversation on your cell phone, eat that chicken quesadilla from Taco Bell (w/ the extra sauce dripping everywhere), sip on your Mountain Dew, and shift gears all at the same time.... though i HIGHLY recommend you dont' make that a habit.

the 4L60E isn't what you would call reliable when you drive the car like it was meant to be driven. It's fine if you put around town, but if you have a lead foot or go to the track that Auto is gonna take a **** on you. With a 6 speed you just upgrade your clutch and you're good to go.

Auto sucks
6 speed>all

I have both. My T/A is manual and I daily drive it. My Z is A4. Don't be so quick to dismiss the 4l60E...it can be made to be very tough(i.e. high energy clutch packs, shift kits, billet servos, harden parts, high strength sun shell, vacuum modulator kit, etc). There are a few companies out there that specialize in building tough-*** race ready
4l60E's that can handle 1000hp if thats what you want to do. If you plan to do any sort of racing at a drag strip where cutting a light and running consistent is important, an auto is a must. The stock 4l60E can be made pretty tough pretty cheap, it just depends on your goals and budget--as with most things performance related. Don't listen to these guys who say autos suck, that simply is not the case and has no bearing on anything worth talking about. Its like arguing if spider man could whip batman's *** or vice versa, just pointless. A4 or M6, they both have their places and I like both equally as much in different situations, to each his own.

Auto = cant drive and have a vagina

Manual = badass drag racer to the extreme

Haha just kidding. Stock A4's arent that much fun, but toss a decent sized stall in there and they are a blast. I personally prefer an manual 6-speed but if your going to be doing a ton of driving and dont want the hassle of having to shift then get the auto. For hat its worth I had only driven a standard 2 times prior to buying my z28 (manual) and I just rolled off the lot and learned quickly lol. It comes down to personal preference though so just go with your gut feeling and get the tranny that suits you best.

If you're going to do a lot of stop and go driving. Go with the A4 and add a 3200 stall.

This is not at all accurate. I had a stock 4L60E last 70,000 miles which included 300+ track passes and more abuse then you could shake a stick at.

It's not spirited driving that kills 4L60E's. It's heat and or too much HP/TQ. If you're gonna stick with bolt ons then a shift kit and tranny cooler are all you'll need for the 4L60E. If you are going to go bigger power like heads/cam and or N20 then yes the stock 4L60E must be replaced or built up.

Companies like FLT, Rossler and Performabuilt can build a 4L60E that can handle 700 HP for around $2,000-2500. While that may sound like a lot you have to consider the cost of a quality clutch and 12 bolt that M6 guys need to replace after big power mods. Suddenly $2500 for a monster 4L60E becomes a bargain.

Built 4L60E + big stall > all

IMO of course.
