Default Changing the manual transmission fluid for an LS1

Hi everyone,

I have a 2000 z28. I'm just now getting into the do-your-own-maintenance thing, and unfortunately have up until now had only the Hanes manual for guidance. The manual covers 1993 and up, despite the fact that there are LOTS of differences between a 2000 and a 1993.

One of these differences seems to be the access to the manual transmission fluid. In the Hanes manual's photos, it shows a drain plug and a fill plug. But when I get underneath the car I can ONLY find a fill plug. Does this mean that the only way to change out all of the fluid is to either:

I'm sure it's a dumb question, but any advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

    Dave

on my car, the drain plug is on the passenger side of the transmission, all the way in the back and towards the bottom(square like, a 3/8 ratchet fits inside of it to take it off)

Heres a 2000 trans in my 2002. It even says DRAIN
Drains on the passenger side, fill is on the drivers side.
Get an oil bottle adapter with a long clear half inch hose. Don't tear your console and shifter off to refill it as some will suggest.

AGREED! I don't know why people do it that way (unless they had to get the shifter off anyway, for another reason, at the same time).
The CRC/Sta-Lube hand pump works just fine, with very little mess, and even with quart bottles you only have to change it 4 times.
The crazy thing is that even with the through the shifter opening fill method, they still have to get under the car anyway to drain the thing!!! So, it does not even save a trip under the car, jacking up, etc.

    Drain from pictured hole.

remove shifter and fill from top.

Only way I'll ever do it again.

Drive it a bit so the fluid is warm but not hot. More of the old fluid will come out.

Drain w/ bolt. You can get a pump w/ hose like this one. You can re-use it for the diff change as well.

Just pump til fluid comes back out of fill hole and your done.

not to be a thread jacker but why would you fill from the shifter?
autozone has a $2.00 flex tube that screws onto the bottle

Unless there is a specific reason, why are you changing the fluid? The T56 found in our cars do not require a fluid change, as stated in the owners manual.

The only problems associated with dexcool is when air is allowed into the system. Otherwise, 100,000 mile intervals are prefectly fine. Changing your fluids prematurely won't hurt anything, but you are only wasting time and money.
