I once called the chevrolet dealership and gave them the vin for my 2002 z28 with a 6 speed, they told me the replacement clutch was P/N: 12581650
Now if I had a 2002 z06 corvette and called them and asked what the replacement clutch would be for the vette Im positive they would tell me its P/N 12570806

so its not impossible that the clutch from a z06 ls6 corvette isnt the same clutch used in 01-02 f-bodys even though the part numbers are different.
also, do you honestly believe everything a dealership tells you?
stock clutch ran well until the accident (72,xxx)

80K and counting.. very very easy on my car and the previous owner was very easy too.. I only have a lid so my car is pretty much stock.. if i had a cam and some spray I'm sure it wouldnt have lasted this long

My car has the air lid K&N Smooth bellow. and i never shifted past 3rd, i usually run third til i look down and say oh **** im almost at 90mph then i slow down cuz im doing double the speed limit lol. I never dropped the clutch and launched the car, once for a friend i dropped it at like 2,000rpm and did a super tiny burnout, my tires on the rear are bald, i got it like that and the front tires where actually worse so i replaced the fronts and left the rears, and didnt do burnouts. Im only 21 and paying $350 a month for the car and 150 for insurance, so i dont abuse it because i wouldnt be able to fix it right away if i broke something. Im gonna keep my income tax return in case something goes. so thats why i was wondering. thanks for all the replies.

as weird as it sounds, GM has different part numbers for the same part. like the ls6 intake manifold is part number 12573572 on the zo6 ls6 corvette but 12561184 on the 01-02 ls1 f-body. one other number i found is for the ls6 intake is 88890523.
so its not impossible that the clutch from a z06 ls6 corvette isnt the same clutch used in 01-02 f-bodys even though the part numbers are different.

Exactly, as far as I know (disclosure, as far as I know) 12581650 has been the P/N for the clutch in ever year LS1 F-body. So by saying "01 & 02 F-bodies got the Ls6 clutch" doesnt make any sence, I know the hydrolics were upgraded but the actual clutch itself is, again, as far as I know, the same part number as the preceeding years. Why would GM make a new clutch, name it the same P/N as an existing piece, only put it in the 01 & 02 F-body under that old number and then produce a Ls6 (zo6) clutch under a different part number and call that one the LS6 clutch. Someone on this site probably just said "01's & 02's get the new LS6 clutch" and everone on here wants to believe their car has the better part in it. Trust me, when i invested $$$ in a new clutch I did as much research as I could including contacting the parts manager at fred beans, read this entire post https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...02#post4682792
also, when i swaped the clutches I saw that the springs were visibly larger on the 12570806 cluch I installed than the 12581650 clutch that i removed, i whish i took pictures. Bottom line, i dont care any more, clutch is swaped. Im just trying to make anyone aware of the research I went through when I was looking into an upgrade so they dont just throw around the thought that our cars indeed have a better clutch than we really have and the true Ls6 clutch is indeed the better piece. I really dont know for sure, I'm not an engineer at Valero or who ever makes that part, I just know that there is indeed a difference.

Well when i first got mine i was trying to downshift into 1st, no one told me its impossible!!!! but then i figured to save my clutch i wont downshift, i mean automatic cars dont downshift so my brakes should last a decent amount of time either way. Besides brakes are way cheaper!!! and i can do it myself.
