need a little advise and some opinions, is it worth the money to stroke an ls1 engine? i'm going to have a good h/c combo, higher compression and long tubes.

 

what are your goals and what do you plan to do? Autocross then NO! drag, street? It all makes a difference.

 

if it's your daily driver car, i think its a bad move to stroke it.

i'm looking to build a project car. not an everyday driver but something to get milk and bread in once and a while and still respect at a traffic light. i would like to run in the mid 11's without nitrous. shooting for low to mid 500's in hp.

 

well u dont need 500hp to run mid 11's.. a well driven m6 or a stalled a4 with heads/cam/suspension will get there.

 

a guy in my old F-body club told me that stroking a daily driver car is a bad idea because they are primarily for racing so it's a waste of money otherwise...was he wrong? cause i really don't know. i just assumed he knew what he was talking about. maybe not. he was a kinda douchebag anyway come to think of it...LOL

don`t waste the money stroking a small bore block.
use an LS2 at least.

 

I was thinking of stroking to 383 daily driver
how long would the engine last?

I just want to keep it going til i get the cash to build an LSX 427 or so powered machine

you can still have a reliable daily driven stroked engine as long as its done correctly

 

...sorry guys. i would rather go f/i to get the power i'm looking for, but not in the budget...also i have to buy an intake manifold. are the stock ls6 that good or is it worth the extra to get an aftermarket? also using ls1 heads that will be ported and polished?

 

as far as stroking a daily driver. back in high school before i had kids and money, i drove a stroked daily driver for almost 2 years, (Sold the car when i went to college) and it got great gas mileage, and never had a problem except that the cam would rattle the exhaust man. bolts loose.

 

You're asking many different questions and there is so much detail
here on each it's ridiculous. My recommendation would be spending
some time searching each topic. There is a wealth of knowledge here.

my dad stroked his Z71 and the exhaust maf is always coming loose and is loud as $hit

 

It depends on what you want from your engine.

If you are planning to upgrade the components (forged bits and such) then it adds little to no expense to stroke vs not to stroke.

If you are not planning on going with forged components then the same amount of HP can be gained in other ways for significantly less money.

 

I dont want to use nitros and f/i is out of the question for now
