Default newb question!

Well i just got an m6 and I've been reading about the skip shift eliminator. I've only drove the car for maybe 20 minutes or so before i bought it. I've read that without the skip shift eliminator, CAGS automatically locks out 2nd and 3rd gear making you shift into 4th? So with the eliminator I will be able to shift into 2nd and 3rd no matter how easily I drive? Maybe if I hadn't been up for 25 hours i'd be able to think more clearly. Can you guys help me out on this? I don't wanna shift from 1st to 4th. Oh, and does it effect if I wanna shift from 4th to 2nd? Thanks in advance!!

Yes, only at part throttle and under something like 2000RPMs.

It will just act like every other manual out there. Skip shift was just used for upping the city MPG.

skip shift will never come on when your racing(your rpms will be above the conditions to activate) but it will come on in your regular driving. There are a few ways to get rid of it. 1. SLP sells a part that will plug in and turn it off. 2. You can buy a resistor for $.50 or something from radio shack and put that in, same effect as the SLP thing. 3. have it tuned out

Get the SLP part thats like 30 bucks. All u have to do is get under the car and pop it right into the tranny and it works like a charm.

Don't waste your money on that junk. Get the $.50 resistor from Radio Shack and save yourself $30. Takes no longer and requires no more effort than the SLP part.

Then down the road when you get more serious mods and require a tune they can eliminate it for you completely.

Well I have pacesetter LT headers, flowmaster with a cutout. I'm gonna buy a slp lid and then get it tuned. I don't plan on doing any serious mods to this car.

ya... i think with the slp unit the light will still come on... basically its telling the tranny to skip shift but because of the resistor, the tranny doesn't get the signal... light still comes on but 2nd and 3rd are not locked out

Yeah...both of my M6'es the light still lit up. Get the eliminator...not necessarily from SLP, but the "Plug-N-Play" is much easier than screwing around with some resistor and tape. Screw all that...I think I got mine for around $15, but I don't remember where.
