Re: should i buy auto or 6 speed???
Looks like a mix of opinions, plenty in both camps. I actually prefer the A4 for daily driving (got it in my truck) because I can tune the radio, juggle coffee, eat a burrito, whatever, and not have to worry about shifting. My car is not a daily driver, and that's good for me because it drives me nuts in heavy Houston traffic.
As far as the drag strip goes, A4's always leave me at the line (mainly because I still have the stock 10-bolt, and I take it easy on launch since I've already busted it once). A lot of times, though, I reel them in and end up finishing either just behind, or I'll pass them once I've hit 4th gear (provided I hit all the gears, which is something else to consider - A4's never miss a gear, so if you're in a money race with M6 vs. A4, my money is on the A4 - better odds). That is, of course, unless the M6 car has a 9" or 12-bolt rear end with slicks, where the 60' times can drop. In bracket racing, A4's are much more consistent.
So, my opinion, A4 if it's a drag car, M6 if it's a road race or AutoX car. I have much more fun on a road coarse or an AutoX than I do at the drag strip. One lasts 11-13 seconds, the other lasts anywhere from 2-30 minutes. More fun factor in road racing, IMO, and M6's do it best.

alright, this is it
unless you are going to have a track only car
and you have lots of cash
GET THE M6!
i have the A4 and its a worthless piece of ****
i put in a 3400 2.0,
i put in the shift kit
god damn it
go drive a high stall A4
and go drive a 4.10 geared M6
then you'll know!
A4 is nothing but trouble
stage two trans you'll eventually have to get=
$~2000
mad stall you'll have to get to make it worth getting an A4 = $900+
then again,
M6 is ~$2000 for the 12 bolt
and who knows how much for clutches
i dont know anymore.
get a bike.

I don't know why Gm put a 2.66 1st gear in the f-body m6 instead of the vette's 2.97. Would make the car tons easier to drive. Problem with a M6 is the extremely fine line betwee bog and spin on the launch. Like I said with my stang I just let the clutch out and stick the gas. No bogging ever and barely any spin. I want a Ferrari with a F1 gearbox. Best of both worlds.

get an A4 if you actually want to be quick.

Damn these threads are pointless.
When are people going to realize that neither trans is better than the other? Which one to choose is a matter of personal opinion and intended use.
One thing that cracks me up are M6 guys that think anyone would be hooked on the M6 as soon as they drive it. I can tell you first hand, even after driving M6 LS1s, I still prefer the auto.
So there you have it. Opinion, opinion, opinion. To each his own.
FINAL ANSWER!
