Well looking on autotrader, I found a nice looking 99 z28 6spd. I emailed them about trade information, and it sounds like a straight trade might be a possibility.

My car is auto, 3.8l, nbm, CLEAN, ttops, etc...

From a "value" standpoint, my car is 1 year newer, 13k less miles, and automatic, plus "better gas mileage" (arguable, I know).

What do you guys think? I'm taking my car up sometime this week to show and discuss.

 

I would do it as long as the car in question seems to run fine and is operational.

 

cool for you if the other party is willing to trade. i would never trade for a 3.8 car.

 

I sort of question the other guys motivation... Be careful.

 

hmmm seems like a good bargain... But they dont always give good prices on trade ins. I remember once i wanted to trade my firebird with 100K (excellent condition) and was offered 2500 at carmax once... Maybe you should consider keeping your v6 for daily driver. I mean the price for z28 is not that high and i am sure you can knock off 500 bucks or so...

pretty much a steal if the car is running well. i think his motive might be that he wants a more effecient vehicle, which is in theory a great reason to get a v6. in reality, the v6 might be smaller, but it's having to work a lot harder to push around the car than the ls1 is. plus yours is an auto, which sucks up more fuel. i wouldnt be surprised if the ls1 car got better hwy mileage than your v6'er.

drive the car, if it runs well and he's dumb enough to do it, dont even think twice.

A dealer is not going to straight trade. That car is at a dealer/car lot whatever you want to call it.

 

I agree. They don't make money on straight trades.

If you can pull it off that would be cool. Your car is clean, from what I have seen in person, but something seems sketchy.

 

This was my thinking on the whole thing too... Im sure I would get better freeway mileage with the 6spd ls1, which would be great when driving out to toledo from cleveland for school.

you might be able to do a trade plus cash but I really doubt that a dealer would do a stright trade on that car unless there were problems with it. The only way the dealer is going to do a straght trade is if they know they are going to come out ahead and no matter how good of a deal you think you get at a car lot, the dealer is always going to make money. I mean its just like anything else, there not going to sell you a car and just break even, if its a nice car I would consider trading yours for it plus some cash, looks good but who knows, id diff. check it over really good.

 

If that car has been running without a lid (hence no air filtration) for any length of time I'd pass.

 

c mon u guys are still on this?? i read this yesterday and i was gonna respond but id figure someone would give this guy a reality check! dude no one wants your banger, and no one especially wants it for an LS1 Z28 M6, that car is worth more in parts than yours is out right so lets just start to keep it real..........if that Z had a blown motor your still adding cash and your banger to get into an LS Z28! you guys are talking about an air lid??? if this dealer is insane enough to trade a 3900$ banger for an LS z28 than who cares about a lid!! if u want an ls1 Z28 lets talk a more realistic plan, like u just sold your banger to some kid who jsut got his card for 3850 and you have a plan to come up with another 4grand so you can make a reasonable offer on any Z, but what u are doing now is your wasting everyones time and a bunch of posts!! in any condition that car is worth a truckload more than yours so id say do it! obviously hes not though, u know it and so does anyone else who knows anything about anything................

That car is sucking in straight air. Nothing going through the filter.

No way is a dealer going to straight up trade.
