I thought it was carried over from the 3rd gens as well. It doesn't bother me, I never sit there...

When I do sit there the seat is all the way back and I'm only 5'11ish so my legs can be out stretched so it doesn't make a difference for me...

It is for the cat as others have said. Actually I am pretty sure the LT1 style 4the gens cat was there (at least for my 93Z28 it was) My 99 Z28 has the 2 cats close to the manifolds.

yea i was only in the passengers seat once because i was vacuuming the car, but the reason i was wondering is when i bring the ladys for a ride they always ask what it is, and i didnt know what to tell them lol

EVERY and I mean EVERY time someone new is in my car they ask what it is.

Ive yet to have anyone ask me what it is, or whats the purpose. Sometimes they dont even notice it. And when I point it out, theyre like, "Does your side have it?" LOL.
