just don't want to break anything. does that plastic just "pop out" so you can then pull the head unit out?

Yes..I just took mine off last night.. You just have to wriggle your fingers around the inside as you pull lightly and it will pop off..

yup, really easy, then its only a few screws holding the unit in place, 2 i think, maybe 4. be careful when pulling it off, if you have any buttons (fog lamp, second gear start, traction control, etc.) you will need to disconnect them from the back so you can pull the plastic all the way off.

edit: the buttons will only be there if you have a camaro
