Default Can you modify stock air lid?

Hey, hard up on cash right now, but don't mean I want to quit modding...is there any way to modify the stock air lid so that it will flow a bit better, I see the ridges on the other side of the lid, thought about sanding those down???Any feedback would be helpful..thanks
Ben

Just buy a $99 MTI lid. Best bang for the buck you will find for these cars. I tried modifying the hell out of my stock airbox lid back in 1998 and didn't pick up nearly the gains of a simple aftermarket lid.

Stock lid on my '01 SS has all the ridges ground down (inside, top). No choice (yet) of an aftermarket model due to the Vortech blower.

What kind of difference does that make? I have no idea.

I'm waiting for Spectacle Solutions to begin production runs of their lid. Until then I'm making do with my modified stock piece.

Been there done that. Didn't work. It is not worth the time and effort. Any gains are minimal. I did not notice any real diffrence in performance. You can buy a used K&N and a lid for about $100 in the for sale forum.

In the meantime (until you upgrade your lid) do the free ram air mod and remove the baffles. That will give a decent gain. To gain even more get FTRA. Costs $175 and worth every penny.
