I recently did the cooling fan mod found on this page and another one I can't remember:
http://users.oco.net/xero/fanmod/
I did this following the instructions pefectly except I used wire taps to tap into the fan wires out of the harness.
Impressions:
I liked this mod... for the first few minutes until it threw codes. It threw P0480 and P0481, Cooling Fan Relay #1 and #2, respectively.
The mod worked perfectly, the ligths came up as they should and the fans came on perfectly as well. I did this mod to help my transmission cooler cool my transmission. It did its job. I left the high speed fans on the whoole ay while driving and turned them off when the car was off and never saw the temp ever go above 175 (it used to go up to 205).
I thought I might have done a bad job wiring it up, so i disassembled everything and did it again and still the same problem.
The mod is great if you don't mind that damn SES light staring you in the face. I clear the light about 5 times a day. Sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesn't.
Bottom line: If you don't mind the SES light coming on, this mod is great, but if you would rather have the SES light come on for real problems, go do the PCM route. Have someone with LS1Edit set the fans to come on earlier and also invest in a 160* thermo.
I will also be trying this other mod that does the same thing, but only activates the low speed fans. I will post up my impressions about this mod too.

I did the same fan switch mod, and the SES light only comes on at random times.. Kind of unpredictable as to when it will happen, but it goes away after a few starts

I remember reading about those codes somewhere on the board. Just search on here for the codes and you should find a fairly lengthy discussion on what it is that's causing it.

There was 2 diodes you had to wire in place to keep the SES light from coming on. It was a 3A 200v diode. One goes on each connection to the oem wire. This will prevent the SES light from coming on.

I have the SLP switch on my Formula, and no codes.
Of course, I did it myself on my Trans Am, and never threw any codes, either.
If you ground the setup in correctly, you will blow the 50 amp fuse for your fans, and that will throw a code almost instantly.

I did the same mod except one time it threw the SES light and the ABS INOP light. Slammed on my brakes and ABS was working perfectly. I think its only when you leave the fan on a good length of time.
