Default Temperature Help????

I recently purchased my first my 1st LS1 with lots of bolt-on mods. I have owned a few LT1's and have not had any temp problems. My cars runs hot and boils over thru the overflow. i have started the process of elimination with the thermostat and radiator cap but no luck. The fans are cutting on but would a lower temp fan switch work?

how high is the temp going up?... it should sit right below or up to 210 degrees... you might possibly have a plugged radiator or maybe an air pocket somewhere in the system... once the car is cooled off take the radiator cap off and let the car run... while its running squeeze both of tha radiator hoses to burp any air out of the system... keep checking the hoses for temperature... the upper one should heat up faster but as it starts to get hot the lower one should begin to warm up... once they get to about the same temp is when the thermostat should open and the fans should turn on... let it keep running until the fans cycle a couple times and then top off the radiator and put the cap on and make sure the overflow tank is at the correct level... if there was any air trapped in there or the radiator is plugged, the top hose will keep getting hot and the lower one will not heat up... once it gets to the boiling point it backs its way out of the radiator and out your overflow tank

thanks.....i will try that right now. I've already tries burping the hoses but may still have some air in there. The car only has 18000 original miles, so i couldnt imagine what else it could be.

the temp stays around 210, so its really not running hot. But still overflows like I said

hmmm... try seeing if you can get your radiator pressure tested and check the hoses like i said and make sure they are both getting hot... out of curiosity what kind of thermostat did you buy??... i have bought cheap ones from autozone or o'reilly before and had an air bubble in the system when i installed them and made it overheat... well long story short the crap thermostat they sold me couldnt stand the heat... once it overheated from the air pocket it stuck closed on me... so from then on out i only buy oem thermostats

well it will be fine while driving as there is air flow past the radiator which helps alot with cooling... its those dead stops in traffic that cause the temperature to skyrocket... and you might want to check that thermostat also
