Default Torsion Bar issues

Hi, I am looking to buy a 98 Ta that i found and the owner says that the only issues it has are that it needs a rear bushing kit because the torsion bar gives a little thump when you get on it. Is this common with these cars as they get older? Does this sound Kosher or should I be looking at anything else which may go along with this issue? I have always wanted an LS1 car and this is as cheap as i am gonna find one close to where i live, but i won't have a lot of cash to dump into it after buying it so i don't want to buy a headache right off the bat. The Carfax checks out clean so if this issue is minor then i will go for it. Any advice here would be appreciated.

Thanks
F Small

Are you talking about the torque arm? The mount can be broken and cause a thump upon take off. Look into a tunnel mount torque arm bracket. Many of the sponsors sell one.

pretty common problem with cars of age...test drive it for yourself and listen to the noise and see if it seems like a suspension problem...otherwise sounds like you did your research and congratulations!

mines loosened up twice and it does that whenever you put load on it or comes to a stop. i keep tightening the bolts back up but i think the rubber mount is broken or torn because it keeps coming loose. worst case senario, you could get a tunnel mounted torque arm which i plan on doing eventually anyway

It was my endlinks that were noisy with mine. My Strano stuff fixed it though No biggie.
