ive heard to also vary your revs when making longer trips, when my dad got his 69 camaro engine built we made sure to speed up and slow down every now and then so we didnt keep it at the same rev all the time.

idk if this is true. thats what he said.

Varying your rpm's help with breaking in your rings. This is why highway trips are usually avoided during the first 500-1000 miles as you want to be working the rings (thrusting them out, letting them settle). City driving does this just fine, just avoid high rpms for a while. I would stay below 4500rpm until around 500 miles at least. Also depending on how many new parts were used in the rebuild they're going to have to mate to each-other so you'll want to stick to a stringent oil changing routine. 50/100/250 miles so on I would recommend. But I'm sure others differ. Although not allowing proper break-in isn't going to hurt your power-wise, it's recommended for longevity.

So...
1)Stick with city driving for a while, don't sit at one rpm for too long. Break in those rings properly
2)Keep the rpms in a moderate range-No racing
3)Change your oil frequently
