Default where is the power?

Ok fellas ive been searching high and low for some answers and just are not finding them. i have a 99 TA M6 that just doesnt run right. the power of the car surges. if i run it hard it seems to start running better and feels like it has more power but it seems if im just cruisin and decide to stomp on it, it hesitates and then the power will surge. also if i get off the highway and have had the rpms high it seems to run pretty good but still some hesitation. i just replaced spark plugs and wires and cleaned the maf with cleaner and changed the fuel filter.also replaced the clutch with the ls7 kit. any ideas? i bought the car in april and it was doing it than but i thought it just needed a tune up. thanks for any input.

i wondered if it was a bad cat but it didnt have that egg smell everyone talks about. it throws no codes but thats not to say that the person before me didnt have them deleted out.

I'd suggest first getting or borrowing an obd2 scanner, and make sure all sensors are working and showing proper measurements/voltages, etc and make sure the check engine light works (does it come on when you turn the key before you start the car?).

the check engine light comes on untill i start the car and than it goes off so im guessing it works. i guess my next step will be to have the car scanned.

Ok so a little update. I still have not had time to get the car scanned but today I did pull the wire to the MAF and let the car run in SD. I didnt feel any hesitation. The power still didnt seem all there tho. So im thinking I will replace MAF.( I hope this just isnt in my head that it is somewhat the problem cause i want it to run right so bad).lol.But im still making plans to get it scanned.

The first thing that you do is Quit thowing money and parts at it...get a tech 2 on it and scan it for codes...the tech 2 will tell you what is wrong with it ... then you can proceed with getting it to run right....

You might inspect the MAF more closely for
signs of molestation. It was a popular "free
mod" at one time, to hog it out and hope
for the best.

It could be a bad O2 sensor. For the last two weeks my car has been misfiring and kind of sputtering when I get into the accelerator. It took it awhile, but it finally threw a p0135 code which is a bad o2 sensor.

Did you swap out the slave cylinder with the clutch install? The 98-00 slaves are notorious for failing, chances are you did but am just throwing it out there. Have you tried to reset the PCM to see if it is tuning issue, chances are it isn't, but you neve know what the last person did to it. If it improves and doesn't hesitate while it relearns itself would negate a bad cat.

+1 to what jimmyblue said about the MAF.

Sometimes...mine went on and off then back on for awhile until I replaced the sensors.

well i took a little road trip and it finally threw a code. i went straight to autozone to have it scanned and the guy said it showed a left bank rear sensor? So does this indicate a bad cat? i tried getting more info from him but i think i knew more about it than he. Again thanks for all the ideas and sugestions. It is much appreciated.
