Default 96 v6 conversion to LS1

Been thinking about making the swap instead of buying a LS1.. i have a 96 V6 right now.. i've had the car for awhile and heard its cheaper than just buying a LS1.. just wondering a guess on price? and how hard it would be? also what would i need for the swap? tranny? suspension? i know the stock rear end is the same as a V8.. so .. total price also?

have no idea really but, i think it would be cheaper to just buy a newer fbody unless you could find a decent deal on a wreck fbody 98and up, thats what i did for my 70 swap i still had a good amount of money in it though..

honestly man, unless you just like the LT1 body style, you're better off finding a cheap LS1 on here for sale in the classifieds! I did a swap in my 95 Z28 and it cost me more money to do the swap than it would have for me to just buy one. But i had a **** load of bugs to work out that nickled and dimed my *** to death!!!

It seems like changing over to an LS1 would be a hell of a way to get to know your car. I think the easy thing to do would be to just buy one.

I would suggest a newer f-body. It will cost about the same if not less.

Unless you have a hell of a hook up on the LS1 components.

I did this exact swap for about 6 -7 grand total. not including cost of the original v6.

I got a donor 02 z28 that was wrecked with 18k on it.
had to buy a couple other little things but overall its not that bad of a swap.

did all the work myself and yes its great to know every little thing about your car. I don't thing there is any part on my car that I haven't touched.

plus I love the lt1 look way more than the 98 and up

For 7k, you can buy a pretty nice LS1 car, sell the V6 car, and have more money to put into the LS1.
