Default Life span of fuel??

My buddy has a 77 chevy truck that has been sitting for about 7 months... I was wondering if the fuel in the tank is still ok to pump to the carb or should we empty the tank and put new fuel in before we fire it up... Thanks.

its not the fuel you need to worry about. its the fuel lines that may be clogged from sitting so long

The bottom line is:
1. It's OK to burn the old fuel(7 months) in the engine.
2. The question is how full was the tank? ie less full = more moisture and contaminates so add a can of heet or similar product.
3. Fill a tank to the top for short storage and use fuel stabilizer.
4. Drain a tank and use a rust prohibitor in the tank for long storage.

Fuel is a solution of different hydrocarbons. The most volatile (lightest) evaporate quicker leaving the heavier ones behind. Fuel stabilizer is a light wax that creates a film ontop that slows this evaporation and prevents the absorbtion of moisture.

We tried to fire it up and no fuel was getting to the carb... I am going to buy a spray bottle, fill it with gas and sit there under the hood spraying the carb to see if it will start to get fuel on its own. If that doesnt work then I will check the fuel filter and then follow the lines back to see if I can find where it is clogged up if that's the case.
