Default Nitrous or turbo

Now i've seen alot of threads out there stating "convince me to stay nitrous" or nitrous vs turbo..but what IM asking here is, excluding the cost to go FI, why has everyone here chosen to spray their car. Im shooting for somwhere in the 650-700rwhp range, and wanted some insight from the N20 guys..thanks!

Nitrous is a great budget way of making HP and not having constant strain on the vehicle. It will not alter everyday driving and the power is there when you want to play.

On the internet you just slap some turbos on and go run nines, in the real world there's a bit more to it. I think turbos are bad ***, but there are a few drawbacks. It adds weight, there's more moving parts which means more can break, and compressing air makes heat. It also takes space in a vehicle thats pretty tight to work on IMO. Every system has their pros and cons. To be honest, I just don't realy need more than 600rwhp, most of the time.

A turbo is always boost ready, a nitrous bottle is not always full. In the long run a turbo is cheaper, because eventually you will buy more nitrous than what the turbo kit cost, assuming that you keep the car that long. Each has its advantages, but each engine would be built different for the application. Camshaft selection is the biggest thing that will make or break a nitrous engine.

thanks guys..I think for my application that nitrous fits me better than turbo..turbo is great and makes insane power..but like dave said, its there when you need it and not constantly putting strain on the motor..and for a 100% street car only shooting for 600-700rwhp it just makes more since

That may be true, but i think you are spraying wayyy to much if you reach the cost of what a 700rwhp turbo build would be.
Because you sure as **** won't be putting down that much power on an LS1 block.

Simple reason here, cheap with great results.

An LS block needs spray like a hooker needs crack.

They just go together very well.

I would go turbo if I had experience with it. Nitrous is fun and if set up correctly can give you a progressive power similar to a turbo. If you buy all the bells and whistles, I don't think it's cheaper.

i had never planned on putting nitrous on my camaro, i was actually going to get a STS rear mount. But one day i was on ebay and found a nitrous express kit, wet, with no reserve and brand new in the box and i bid on it to see what happend. The next thing you know i ended up winning it and i got it for $335 shipped to my door, if you ask me thats a smoking deal haha. Thats when i became a nitrous junky and the beast within the Z was unleashed and hasnt been beat since haha. You cant go wrong with nitrous.

for me its being able to build up a 600-700+hp street car and drive it all the time. its relatively tame and reliable at 400-500hp when cruising around and a beast when i want it to be.

its all going to come down to your preference and budget. There are lots of reasons to go nitrous and lots to go with a turbo. All that matters is how much you want to spend to get to your goal. With our brute force plate kit and a few other accesories, you easily get 200rwhp for around a 1000 bucks. If your build your motor properly you could run the 200 shot for a very very long time.

For me it came down to how much power I wanted to make.
I have been a nitrous junky for a long time. IMHO when you want over 800rwhp the turbo gets the nod. As you can see from my signature, I am in the process of putting a turbo in my car. Turbo cars trapping over 160 are a dime a dozen compared to the nitrous cars.

Turbo Setup = $15,000-Installed

Nitrous Setup = $1,500-Installed
N20 Fillup = ~$40/bottle

$15,000-$1,500 = $13,500
^^That's The Price Difference In Setup

w/bottle fillup factor,

$13,500/$40 = 337.5 Bottles Of Nitrous

If You Use An Entire Bottle A Week, It would Take 6 and 1/2 Years To Equal The Cost of A Turbo Setup.

How Many People Have Run A Turbo/Nitrous Car For 6 Years?

Unless you willing to go all out with the turbo ($20/30k), the nitrous is the better bet imo. If you go with multi staging, NANO technology and utilize the modern dry high-technology you have a turbo(s) killer for much, much less.

If your building a 402 would you have to do anything different, such as larger ring gaps bigger ringlands, different cam to go with the nitrous, or can you just build a nice forged NA motor? I was kinda told that if I planned to run a 100 shot, I should build a"nitrous" motor", or using nitrous would damge the motor. I only plan on using it when I go to the track and that's only about 4 times a year.

IMO i dont think you'd have to build your motor based on a 100 shot, I just think of it this way, my motor is a stock internal LS1 i've been running a 150shot for about a year now...im pretty ****** sure GM didnt build these motors to run on nitrous but a lot of ppl do and it runs like a mother ****** haha. A stock motor thats a beast on nitrous? Dont think that was planned, just build the nice forged motor you want and slap some juice on it!
