Default New to Nitrous: Need advice

I just bought a NX kit model 20919-10. I emailed NX and their response is below. I just thought I would see what you guys thought.

For 75HP and at least 89 octane fuel , you do not have to change spark plugs or timing.
For 150HP you need to change the spark plugs to copper core (non platinum) plugs, gapped at .035. We recommend an NGK TR6 spark plug. Factory timing is ok as long as you run 93 octane fuel.

Thanks for all your advice guys

i would pull timing on a 150 shot...100 shot is even iffy imo...and i would definitely recomment tr6's for any spray..

i'm not a nitrous expert like some of these guys, but that sounds about right to me besides the 89 octane fuel, i would never run 89 octane. I stick with premium only. IMO

I just bought a MSD 6AL so I thought I could get the timing tuner and dial it down a notch just to be sure.

Is there a reason you got the 6AL? There are lots of fast nitrous cars out there and I rarely see them run an aftermarket spark discharge box like that. The coil over plug design of the LS1 is pretty robust without running anything aftermarket like that. All you really need is a timing tuner just to pull a few degrees of timing and some TR6 plugs gapped at .035 like they told you in the email. Always run 93 octane fuel at bare minimum when spraying nitrous too.

I bought the MSD because I got a good deal on it. So you are saying that a MSD doesent really help these cars? Forgive me but I am old school and not as familiar with the new stuff.

Thats the problem with the spark boxes on the LS1's. Being that the entire ignition system is electronically controlled I don't think there is even a way too hook up those boxes and have them operate fully the way they should. Plus I don't think the 6AL even has timing retard operations unless you buy the seperate timing retard module. I had a Mallory 865 box on my fox body mustang when I ran spray on it and I did some research about using the box on the LS1 to pull timing and I was unable to find anyway to hook it up and have it operate. Do some more research but I don't think the box is really gonna be able to be used in your application. Maybe I am wrong and someone will post up and correct me.

Just get a timing tuner. My buddy has been running 10.50's on a 150 shot with just that and only that on the stock coils and 93 octane.

The info you posted that they sent is hard to disagree or agree with due to you not telling us anything about your set up.

One place I disagree with is changing the spark plugs. I suggest changing them period. Timming will depend on what is done to your car now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The best options available that pull timing in a reliable method are the following.

Timing tunner- This unit features activation delay, timing retard, and activation controls based on RPM (programmable window switch) for nitrous oxide systems

MSD Timing Twister-Advance the ignition timing up to 9 degrees. Select a step retard up to 18 degrees for nitrous use. Twist in a boost retard from .1 to 1.9 degrees per pound of boost.

Lingerfelter-LNC-002 can be used to provide consistent launch rpm off the line in drag racing and standing start road racing applications.
The LNC-002 can also be used as an adjustable individual cylinder rpm limiter, providing reliable and fast acting spark based engine rpm limit control.
With the Timing Retard function, the LNC-002 can now also be used to retard timing by up to 15 degrees.
The LNC-002 is designed for use on all GM LS series engine applications LS1, LS6, LS2, LS3, LS7, LQ4 and other Gen III and IV GM V8 applications
