Default Nitrous and relocating battery?

im about to buy a nitrous kit to put on my car and was planning on putting the bottle in the spare tire area. but then i remembered that i had planned on relocating my battery to the same area. i like things to look factory and would rather not have things in plain view.

i dont want to run the nitrous on the hump in the back seat. i cant put the battery where the cd changer is at, because im putting a sub there. i dont want to put the battery in the t-top holder area either.

my question is, is anyone running a 10 lb bottle and a battery in that area? if not then any ideas where i can put the battery?

get a lightweight battery and put it in the spare tire well and then have the bottle with a custom bracket above the battery...

I've got 2 light-weight batteries on order and I've got my 10-lb bottle on my dining room table. I'm gonna be building the mount for both of them to go in my spare tire area tomorrow.

Oh yeah, you want to hit up Modular Turbo's thread HERE. Dude seems to really know his ****. I talked with him over the phone for about an hour, maybe an hour and a half about his batteries and his upcoming turbo kit. One battery is fine for a mild system, HIDs and that stuff. I've got two coming because I'm going with a high-power system and a ton of electronics. I could really get away with one but I decided to go with two since it would still be lighter than one factory battery. One thing Modular Turbo told me was to make sure that all of my accessories are wired so they receive power only when the ignition is on. Since it is a smaller battery it can be drained easier than a stock battery if items are left on.

please post pics of it when its done. do you think youre gonna be able to keep the hatch speaker there? i dont really mind taking it out, but i would prefer to leave it be.

and i saw their turbo thread and i plan on picking that up eventually, if it turns out to be as good as it sounds.

I should easily be able to keep the speaker there. I'm about to go out to weld this **** up, I'll be sure to post some pics when I'm done!

Unfortunately my father needed some help swapping the engine in his airplane so I had to help him today. It's looking like Wednesday or Friday.

I have a 15lb bottle and full size battery both in my spare tire well. Don't get me wrong....it is TIGHT and I did have to remove the speaker from the hatch panel to clear the bottle ****, but it will all fit. It's actually kinda nice....if I have a buddy sitting in the rear passenger-side seat, he can pop the speaker grill off for me and crack the bottle open; also a nice seating position for traction...LOL.

I mounted the bottle using the cheap bottle brackets that came with my NOS-5177 and built the battery tray out of angle iron and all thread. I put the brackets close enough together so I can also swap in a 10lb bottle if need be. I'll try to get some pics tonight if I remember.

FWIW, I used a lightweight battery (PC680) in the stock location for about a year. It worked for about a year, but I never felt comfortable using my bottle warmer without the car running. Even with my wife starting the car every two weeks, the PC680 still died about half way through my tour in Iraq and just wouldn't take a charge at all anymore. I'm definatley glad to be back on a full sized battery myself.

well, if a 15 lb bottle will fit then i should have no problems with a 10. ive never actually seen how much space is back there with the spare tire and jack removed.

the more pictures the better though

Yeah, with a 10lb'er I don't see why you should even need to remove the speaker. The height of my 15lb'er is the only reason I had to. Well, actually I had already removed the speakers back there for weight reduction, but the bottle clearly wouldn't have fit in it's new position if the speaker was still there.

See, I initially (like 8 years ago) mounted the bottle at a low enough angle and still retained the speaker. Then, the speakers came out for weight reduction about three years ago. Now, about a year ago, I wanted to put a full size battery back there two, which caused me to stand the bottle up a little more to make room for the battery.

Here ya go...pics as promised.

Cover installed......

And removed........

Here's why the speaker would have to be removed with a 15lb bottle. Again though....gives a rear seat passenger easy access to the bottle valve. Just pop off he grill and there it is

And here's how tight it is between the battery tray and bottle. I'm sure a minor redesign could fix this......but it works fine for me. Bottle goes in and out with no issues.

Hope this helps.

looks good. i should have no problems with mine then. im gonna try to go with a dual 11 lb battery set up mounted underneath the bottle. thatd make it easier to take the bottle in and out.

GC99TA: Very interesting pictures! I've been wanting some pictures of guys who mounted their bottle and battery back there for a while. I have yet to come up with any until now. Nice work.

Thanks guys. I was real happy with the results. I'm sure someone else out there has done the same thing, but I've never seen any other pictures of it either.

I could be wrong But I believe BMR offers a drop down battery holder for that location. In conjunction with a short battery you could probably use our spare tire bracket and mount the bottle over the top of that.
