One thing I am learning is when it comes to this type of shot thats above 150, you need as large of a "Window of Safety" as you can get. Whether it be from having a dedicated fuel cell that runs straight C16, or all the safety features, or a killer tune and running the proper plugs.

Also to mention how this shot is delivered. IMO on a stock LS1, aside from doing the things I mentioned, I would probably have a intake plumbed (and professionally flowed) for a direct shot to give it as much control as I possibly can.

My aim is for it to work, work well, work consistant, and be reliable. Nitrous has sometimes that contridiction but it can be done.

It's just a 4L60E that I put together and a stock 3.42 10 bolt out of a 6 speed car. I've got a few more things to do before it comes back out to the track, but it should cut 1.3x 60' and run 9.80's this fall.

1.4 sixties on the stock rear here. The auto tends to let the stock 10bolt live a little longer. Don't know how much longer it is going to live up to that abuse though. Also, have 3.23 gears in the rear which helps it live too, the deeper the gear the teeth get a lil thinner and tend to break under stress.

So would using a #7 plug and adjusting the tune and timing be enough to up from a 150 to 175 on stock bottom end?

Your car runs 12's? It sounds to me as if you don't know what you're doing.

My tranny is a well put together 4L60E with a Circle D 4C and a 28k cooler.. The tranny has stock input/output shafts with stock 4 pinion planetaries. Everything else has been modified to a certain extent. And yes, the rear end is a completely stock 3.42 10 bolt out of a 6 speed car that had about 10k miles when I bought it used a couple years ago. It has around 15 to 20 ten second passes on it without issue. Drive to track, run 10's, drive it home.

3600# raceweight with driver.

200hp shot with no safety mods, no tune, no anything to make it safe or anthing of the sort on a completey stock " off the showroom stock " car. It lasted about 7months with me putting 4 bottles through it a week back in 2001-2002.

11.42@123

I've come a long way since my younger dumber years and learned a lot on my journey!!

I keep a 175 wet shot in my junkyard motor. only fuel mods are Racetronix pump, and stock 28.8 injectors.

That plug will be fine to use for the 175hp shot.

So other than that can I just adjust the timing/tune and let her rip?

Ran a 150 shot with never a hint of an issue in 2000-2001, before the real easy tunes were available. Swap the plugs and push the button. Sprayed 200 on several occasions and same thing. Car was stock short block with ported stock heads, stock fuel system and the "infamous" B1 cam. Was also A4, stock 10 bolt with 3.73s.

very hard question to answer. next time out im hoping to tune my car in a bot with the 100 shot, maybe 1 or 2 passes, then im pilling up to 200 and thats a bone stock ls1. but i have good fuel system and a good tune. thats with 26* of timming but with race gas. i will prob start at 22* with the 200 shot, maybe even 20. we shall see.
i will let you know once i get back to the track, prob mid september

Many different setups out there but I run a Racetronix 255 with Hot Wire kit, basically good for 650rwhp.

Isn't the end hp result more of the question than the shot size? I've always heard above 550 rwhp is where things start getting questionable. I'm at 550 now with just 100 shot. I'm wondering if I should even try to push my luck with a 150 since I'm at 11.4:1 compression.

What do you experts think. 600 rwhp, standalone with race gas, #7 plugs, at 11.4:1 CR. Whats the chances it'll hold up more than one or two hits, or is that CR ratio too high to try to push it?
