Default Nitrous Tune ???

Whats the most accurate way to tune and make sure its a safe one on newer EFI vehicles ? Read the plugs... or watch the AFR's as you make a pass. If so, what kind of numbers are you loooking for ? I Already have the right amount of timing taken out using the IAT on a switch. Thanks in advance. Sean

Plugs mainly because you can see what each cylinder is doing verses an average reading from a wideband. If you don't mind me asking, how much timing are you taking out for X amount of nitrous? Tuning with the plugs is no joke, start some extensive research now before you hit the car with any size shot. There's some great reading on here to get you started, I also suggest linking up with a Nitrous Vendor so they can help steer you in the right direction.
Good Luck!

150 shot i took out 6 degrees. Hit it a few times with the richest fuel jet suggested for the 150 and the plugs appeared to be slightly dark. Plan on going a little bigger and wanted to ask just in case there should be something else i should be looking at or looking for.

Do you have someone to tune your car for spray or log it while you do it?
What plugs are you running?
Spraying running to rich can harm your motor just as bad as going to lean.

I tune my car on a 200 shot. I dont read the plugs at all. I probably should, I know. I have 2 tunes, a motor tune and a nitrous tune. I run 22 degrees up top on the nitrous tune and I always log the wideband and my knock table. I have put a bunch of bottles through it on the 200. I guess to each his own, either way works as long as your careful and have a clue as to what your doing.

Its been said 1 million times... the knock sensors are useless for tunning nitrous. rich is not safe. and you have no idea if you have the right amount if timming out without looking at the plugs AND the fuel being close. Your methode of tunning is like throwing darts in the dark maybe its good maybe its not...

You dont want to just move up in jet size without getting a handle on the tuning of the jets your on.

If your new to plug reading post some pictures of them.

I will post up some pics. But the most tune is pulling the right amount of timing and finding the right fuel jet based on reading the plugs ?

That along with using the correct plug. Checking distribution to make sure that ALL the plugs are the same and correct.

Sounds simple doesn't it?

NO.... not at all. lol. using 7's shooting 175.. taking away 6 degrees. ill make a pass.. kill it.. coast to a stop.. pull a front and rear on either side. They Look how a normal plug should look. Maybe slightly darker with a yellow tint to the electrode ??? i know, pics would be better. lol

Timing mark is a big deal. Need to see where it is on the strap. Here is a good pic showing the timing mark.

This should be a good start for you on reading plugs.

Is that the correct location? I thought the ideal spot was closer to the bend?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the timing mark is discoloration from the ground strap getting hot. When reading the ground strap, you start above the electrode and read toward the bend. You want the mark as close to the bend, but not into or past the bend on the ground strap.
