Default Tunes.

Are you guys running different tunes when you are N/A as opposed to nitrous or just running one all the time? What are you using to switch between the two just HP tuners? Ive heard of relays that can change the timing but I dont know how the work. Any details?

Use the same tune, just use a box to pull out timing. Check out the Lingenfelter timing box, it's a pretty nice piece.

Everybody does it different. I use EFI Live and just switch between tunes depending on the shot size.

Depending on your setup gains/losses can be determined so whats your mod list. I run a nitrous tune everyday and give up about 6rwhp with the pulled timing. I want to do a timing controller but id have 500+ wrapped up in it by the time i had it retuned and the box put in.

My mods are extensive.

Cam, Heads, FAST, Headers, gears, stall, EWP you name it. I dont know how much timing will affect my tune. Who knows it may even make it a bit safer since the timing is on the edge right now.

what kind of shot do you plan to run? anything over 100 id get the timing controller.

actuaklly since your gonan need a retune anyways id get the box no matter what shot you plan to run. only reason im not now is ebcause id have to pay an additial 250 to retune.

Its gonna be a 100 wet shot. LG is supposed to be doing a retune with the reduced timing etc for 150. I have HP tuners so I can swap back and forth pretty easy. Maybe I will try and pick up a used timing controller.

I run a standalone with C16. So I just run the motor tune for both. Although its very rare for me to make a motor run unless i've changed something.

I wont necessarily be making motor runs at the track but I do a little recreational racing/driving and like to have the N/A for when I dont wanna spray it.

Also can somebody confirm this for me.

I was told that on a tune when you spray the nitrous it improves the cylinder filling because of the cold dense air. This causes the timing to go into higher load cells and this is where the timing will need to come out.

Is this true?

Just do the resistor mod to pull timing it. I do it and it works like a charm and I keep my bad-*** N/A tune. Resistor mod is like $15 in parts. You have HP Tuners so you set your IAT Adder table to whatever timing you want to pull yourself. Save the $150.

How exactly do you change the timing. I dont have a lot of experience with HP tuners so Im not very proficient.

Basically what Im gathering is I put a resistor in line with the maf wired to ??? on the nitrous relay. When I hit the arm switch it activates the resistor and pulls the timing to what I set in whatever specified fields in the HP tuners?

Sorry for all the questions Im just not very good with wiring and Im trying to wrap my head around this.

Do you have any part numbers and suggestions on where to get them as well? I hate to sound lazy but I really have a hard time understanding all of this non-mechanical stuff.

I use a timing tricker also. Mine consist of a 5 prog relay wired into the ECM. Brett at Xp set it all up and pulled the timing. I can have the system armed and still have all my n/a timing. As soon as the wot switch is engaged, the timing is pulled.

How much did he charge you? I already have the rest of the system in this would be the last piece of the puzzle for me.
