Default Suggestions for a new shortblock

Current setup is a stock ls2 bottom end, prc stg 2.5 243 heads, ms3 cam and fast 102. Went 9.68 on this setup in my 2900lb mazda with a 100 shot. Never got a clean pass with a 150 shot as it got cold here, but 1 60" was pretty impressive so I'm sure it could have gone quicker.

Anyway looking to put something together with more displacement and a little more compression that I can be a bit more sure it will be up to the task of a bigger shot.

Overall goal would be to try and get into the 8's with around a 200 hit.

Current thought is an ERL sleeved 427, would love some insight on piston selection or really just some good info I can read about making selections on internals with nitrous in mind.

Just buy the 408 I have listed for sale and be done with it. For what you want to do, in a 2900 lb car it will get it done. Save yourself alot of time and $ Motor should go about 9.30 in a 3000 lb car on nuts..... to get to where you want to, you probably don't even need to put 200 to it.

If I were you I would build the biggest Ci you could afford. Do a 440LSX with a good set of heads.

I agree with the bigger the better comment, if that's something you can do... do it.

JL- link? I think I saw it was it a 408 ls1 for like 5k?

SS- should have mentioned tall decks are out of the question ATM due to steering setup and master cylinder placement, headers are already custom made to deal with those 2 things. Also can you use a stock style plastic forward facing intake on the talldecks? B/c I dont want to use a carb style intake due to height.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/parts-cla...-408-sale.html

For what you want to do, if you can live with the race fuel it's probably overkill to be honest... but if you want to get into the 8 second zone with about 200 worth this will do that.

fwiw, this is a little brother to a 431 (same heads/cam in the 431, cary's single plane on the 431) that in a 3200 lb f car is going 9.1 on motor.... this will probably be about 75 hp less then the bigger motor, but 300 lbs is alot less weight for it to push too..

I'd think it would get you into the 9.30 to 9.20 range... before spraying the car.

I've been lookin around a bit and it looks like an iron block weighs enough to put me over the 3000 lb mark, guess I'll continue reading up on re sleved aluminum blocks. If my Mazda weighs 3000lbs I could just have had an f body race car, or a fox body instead.

Get JLs motor. It depends on what budget you have to work with.

I want more cubes, and I have a 58x setup now, so there'd be extra cost in switching that over anyway. Still looking at options, it's a long winter here in Canada.

Since you are planning for only 200 shot and you already have the LS2, why you don't go a head and buy the following stuff and safe some bucks with alot of power instead of buying a $11,000+ engine ( I know it is killer but if the budget is a problem here is my suggestion ) !..

- Callies/Diamond Rotating Assembly for 402 from TSP ( Great Price ) Tell them your goal with what you need for CR
- Trick Flow 225cc or PRC 227cc or AFR 230cc
- Better Valvetrain with custom Nitrous cam
- a Good DP Nitrous System from Nitrous Outlet ( Kings of N2O )
