Default How reliable is a timing controller?

How reliable is a timing controller? I have heard bad things about them, even worse with fuel injection stock ecus. I am going to run nitrous and want to be safe. I really dont want to lose power on my Na tune for the spray, but if its a lot safer than using a timing retard Im all for it.

Looking to hear from you guys about, experiences, different brands, and different models you may recommend.

Thanks

The only experience i have is with the timing tuner. I dont have it anymore if that tells you anything. You would never really know if it was doing its job because it wont show up on a data log that it is pulling the timing. Plus for some reason it would only activate the n20 for 1 second everytime I shifted. Amazing how much better the car ran with with it spraying the whole pass. I have efi-live so when I do spray I just load my n20 tune. If you dont have software you could either do the IAT trick, or just pull it and leave a little on the table n/a.

There might be some better contorllers out now though. I am sure others will chime in.

I didn't want to mess with any more electronics than necc. I just run the timing tricker mod and have had zero issues with it.

I had a timing tuner on my car [ Which i personally never had a problem with it ] but have since removed it and went to a Lingenfelter unit [ Their new version will be out late Jan early Feb ] and haven't looked back at all.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Customer wise we have sold all of them out here [ excluding HSW Interface ] and have had the least complaints with the MSD and Lingenfelter units.

Right now your only option would be to go with the timing twister by MSD but you better hurry cause they are discontinuing that unit and moving over to their LSx ignition box which has a timing feature in it.

The only timing controller out there that you can visibly see the timing being pulled is the Interface controller we sell. Nothing nicer than verifying what you're commanding.

I ran the Timing Tuner for 3 years with good results. It finally bit the dust. I'm now running a MSD window switch with the timming pulled in the PCM. I'm looking to add the MSD Twister to add timing at the track for NA passes, or to take more timing out. Any of the products work ok, they allow you some quick and easy changes between rounds etc.

I'm going to go with a N2O tune and a NA tune and down load them into the PCM through HP tuners eventually. This is the best way to do it in mine and others opinions.

Does the HSW interface have a built in window switch? Can it be used with no hand held tuner?
