Default 75 Shot on Top of 425hp

Over the winter I put new heads, cam, and an intake manifold on my car. I got the car dyno tuned after the install of everything and managed to reach 425hp without nitrous in the equation. Its not enough for me to be honest. Will I need a retune if I plan on spraying a 75hp shot to reach my goal of 500hp? I am still on a stock fuel pump right now and plan on upgrading to a racetronix pump before I think about spraying. The nitrous kit is from harris speed works and is a wet plate system. There are already two step colder plugs in there right now. How should I go about this? Thanks in advance.

You at minimum need to pull some timing (around 8* in most cases).

I would just go ahead and get another tune, No reason to blow a motor up over some chump change (what you will consider it if you blow you motor).

I know plenty of people that have got by without a problem, but plenty more that didn't.

Would you add a turbo/blower right now on 4# without a retune?

Does he really need a tune? Couldn't he just run a timing puller? Should cost about the same or less than it would to have the car tuned but with more to show for it in the end.

A little more power while off the spray since he'd normally be running NA timing and only pull timing while he sprays.

Some timing puller devices like the harris interface can also control A/F ratios and allow for a dry plate or dry direct port if you want to run those. This device costs $190, shops local to me charge $450 for a full tune, around $150-$200 for basic changes. Each to his own but I'd take the puller.

Eh, in most cases you are talking 5rwhp st the very max.

Iirc also there is no puller that you can actually check to see if its pulling, if it doesn't pull on a 150 hit because of a malfunction... Could be looking for a rotting assembly.

^^^ You're right it would only be about 5 hp but if it costs the same or less doesn't it make sense?

I'm not sure if timing pulls can be measured with the MSD timing twister, maybe someone else can chime in on their experience with that device. I do know timing pulls can be measured with the harris speedworks interface.

The image below is from the harris speedworks website, an hptuners scantool shows timing being pulled:

If there is a way to check on timing being pulled, I retract my statement and say go for a way to pull timing.

Depending on where the tuneup is now, you may only be looking at 2-3 degrees of timing pull. This is not much power, in most cases, but could certainly be in the realm of 10hp.

If you plan to run a lot on motor, the timing tuner becomes a more attractive option. Since your already not satisfied pulling a little more out of it to occasionally spray sounds unattractive in your case.

The lingenfelter box ( Should be available in June.)pulls timing on the fly and can also be seen in datalogs. It is a very nice unit. We also use quite often so Chris especially is good about helping with any wiring or tech you might need.

If you have any other questions let me know.

^^^ Kind of a pricey unit but does come with launch control. Are there any other features?

2 step function is also in the unit.

Its the best one out there. And if you look at it like any other mod, its pretty well worth it depending on the horsepower loss.

Say you run a 150-200hp shot on your H/C car. If you pull 9* out, you may lose 15-25 horsepower. 15-25hp for less than 300$ is not a bad deal.

Again, all depends on the setup, the driver, and the goals of the car.
