Default Who has blown up on nitrous?

I know hundreds if not thousands have put nitrous on there daily drive with out issue. I have in the past also. I am older and more cautious plus have a $400+ dollar payment to make. I am going to the track wed Oct. 19 with my Tahoe and considering taking my kit along with me. If it hits a 15.99 or better N/A I might flip the switch and try for a 14.99.

I know all the precautions So please don't turn this into a "do this to run nitrous" thread. It isn't my first time on nitrous just a little anxious to squeeze my daily driver.

My question is who has, or knows someone, who blew up on nitrous?

imo it's not worth the paranoia on a DD, especially one that you don't own the pink slip to.

Im the kind of person that'll hear something or see a little smoke and be like..oh god i broke a ring

I will never run nitrous unless I have a specific tune for nitrous.

You always take the chance.. but like 99% of the people will say if it was installed right and tuning was done right you shouldn't have a problem.

make sure you run atleast 93 and maybe add some race gas to bump the octain raiting. it will help prevent detonation with the n20 since you are running a stock tune.

If you can't afford a new motor incase something goes wrong I wouldn't spray my dd. No matter how safe you are anything can go wrong or fail. Why even risk it to run a 14??

I got thinking and what the hell is a 14.99 slip anyhow. Yes it is faster then most mustangs(v8 ones event) but not worth the risk.

I just want to take the Tahoe to the track before I get it tuned. I gained .7 in the 1/4 on my other truck and wanted to document the gains on this one. I a not going to do much if anything else so no reason to spray it.

Still curious how many people have or directly know someone else.

Cool

.

I know I'm older then most of you, been to the track more then most also.
I have broke a few times on N2O, I also know I'm in a totally different class so it's not the same, never anything catastrophic,
knock on wood, but I have seen probably 30-40 guys hurt a daily driver.
A few pistons, a few intakes, valve train etc.
Most could not drive home, and some limped home before dying.
Like any other type of gambling, only bet what you can afford.

Good luck and I truly hope for the best if you do spray.

If you race and run alot of nitrous eventually you will hurt something. I dont know anyone personally that races a nitrous car and has never hurt anything.

Make sure you have a fuel pressure safety switch,, I ran my setup without one,,,TILL the fuel pump quit during a run,, then I heard it,, BOOM. Ended up destroying the engine. I built a forged stroker this time, aint sprayed it yet though, but I have my setup right.

I run a small shot, [75 hp], and I stopped counting how many bottles of nitrous I have been thru in the past 5 years that I have had my kit. I cannot be sure, but I am on, I believe my 30th or so bottle. Have never hurt anything whatsoever.

Don't be stupid, take precautions and you'll be fine. I have literally hundreds of passes on a stock short LT1 in the last 8 years and haven't broke anything. 'Course now I'm board and I'll be building a stronger engine next year to take more nitrous. But the original engine is still running great without any internal damage.

And this is my daily driver during the summer.

I ran nitrous 150 shot wet on my 93 Z, full bolt ons and just used a ajustable fuel pressure regulator, nitrous plugs, nitrous tune and probably went through 20+bottles. I didnt track the car and would once in a while race it on the highway and once in a while just spray because it was fun but not much more. On my 01 Z i have now im going to have it tuned for a 150 shot dry with 30LB Ford Svo injectors but most likely going to run 125 shot. In the next couple of weeks going to put it on the dyno and get A/F just in case as well.

I know this is not an ls application but I had a v6 fwd 1996 cutlass with a 75 dry shot on it and I ran 2 bottles a week thru it and it was my daily driver. I used nitrous on it like it was passing gear. I ran those 2 bottles a week for about a year. That car a had a $250 a month dope addiction.

I got greedy one night and put in the 100 shot pills and didn't change the fuel jet that went to the fuel pressure regulator for the dry shot. Went to the track and it went BOOM! Limped it home and it took a chunk out of one of the intake valves and melted all six plugs. I don't know how it was still running. I had a junk motor at the shop and took the heads off it and replaced my heads and backed it down to a 75 shot and kept it like that until I got rid of the car.

I upped the shot trying to get a 14.99 time slip like you and ended up hurting my motor but not too seriously. It ran consistent 15.00.

Even through all this I say DO IT! You only live once and the stories you can tell about it when you are older.

You know it can take 125 all day long, just don't try to be greedy and put a 225 shot on it or something.

Do you really have push me? I have talked my self out of it but now looking for reasons to do it again. You aren't helping.

I am going with a guy in a mustang that will already be slower then he is planning. It should run mid 13s but he isn't a very good driver so it might not do that well.

Like everyone said it relatvely safe as long as you take precautions.

I have a set of rules to play by. If I don't have the title in hand and have the cash to fix what may brake, in this case a engine I wouldn't risk it.
