Default New motor for spray? Come in engine gurus.

Got a 5.7L block. looking to build a good nitrous motor. Single stage plate progressive, slap a LS6 intake on it with some decent heads and stick a 4L80E behind it. Nothing just too fancy.

I'm stuck between a 374CI or 382CI. Which and why? Longevity of both? Looking at about a 300-350 at most. Before anything is said I'm not going with a stock stroke. I'm already having to buy a crank anyway so it will be stroked.

I'm looking for any pros/cons on either one. I'm thinking I can get a 4" crank cheaper and the pistons are more common for a 382CI, but the 374CI does intrigue me.

Mods, please move this if it's in the wrong place.

I personally went with a 4in stroke and a out of the box mahle piston. I think my bore was 3.908. If you do a 3.9in stroke you're going to have to do a custom piston. I did go looking for a 3.9 crank but had very little luck in finding anything from our sponsors that wasn't a custom deal so wasn't interested in making a small bore motor a big money deal.

Just based on the attitude of the place I got mine from I won't be purchasing my next rotating assembly from them(not a sponsor).

All around it would just be easier to do the 382. Wasnt you running a 370 6.0 at one point?

So far there's a nonsponsor selling 382 and 374 rotating assemblies for the same price. I'm not sure what pistons come with it, but I wouldn't mind getting a custom piston. I just haven't seen many 382 or 374s for that matter run on big shots. I was looking to get pros and cons on which may be better than the other and why or why not.

Yes I used to run a 6.0l 370ci. Loved that motor to death, but I picked up this block pretty cheap. I couldn't pass it up.

looks like we will be having similar setups but i have a 370. I say go 382 and spray the heck out of it! Either way you go it will be a awesome setup! What conveter are you going with?

I'm hoping to have this one a little more streetable than my last setup. The only problem I had was that I was inbetween spraying it and running NA due to it being my bracket car. My rings we're gapped for 250+, but yet I had 4.33 gears, and a LOOSE converter.

Since I'm going with a 4L80 with this one I'll either call up Circle D or get with FTI on a converter. With the older transmissions I usually hit up Bubba at BTE great guys up there!

I've already ripped quiet a bit out so I'm hoping to be around 3400lbs raceweight and I'd be tickled if it ran a 9.6x anything faster would be a plus on a 250-300 shot. And the fact that I'd have overdrive.

depends how much your going to hit it with a 4" crank leaves a little to be desired on a standard deck for the piston. Even a 3.9 helps out to get the compression height correct

This is what I was looking for. Max I would shoot is 300.

.

My 2 cents, it's worth getting the pistons coated. It helps with lifecycle, and can save a slug if you're a little off.
Good luck.

Any pros and cons on the 3.900/4.000 crank on a 300 hit? I just haven't seen many 382/383s hit with a 300 and the only 374 I've seen hit with anything close is Devons (Loudmouth LS1)

300 meaning 2 62's ( not 2 82's called a 300) your good with a 4" stroke.

if its a tru 300 like 2 62 jets youl be fine. to many people run a 500 shot and call it 300 in that case i would want a 3.9 in there.
